The Daily Man-Up

October 19, 2022

The thoughtless, the ignorant, and the indolent, seeing only the apparent effects of things and not the things themselves, talk of luck, of fortune, and chance. Seeing a man grow rich, they say, “How lucky he is!” Observing another become intellectual, they exclaim, “How highly favored he is!” And noting the saintly character and wide influence of another, the remark, “How chance aids him at every turn!” They do not see the trials and failures and struggles which these men have voluntarily encountered in order to gain their experience; have no knowledge of the sacrifices they have made, of the undaunted efforts they have put forth, of the faith they have exercised, that they might overcome the apparently insurmountable, and realize the Vision of their heart. They do not know the darkness and the heartaches; they only see the light and joy, and call it “luck”; do not see the long and arduous journey, but only behold the pleasant goal, and call it “good fortune”; do not understand the process, but only perceive the result, and call it “chance.”

What Other Choice Do You Have?

October 11, 2022

(photo: @kfred)

Think of an important goal you wish you could achieve.

Something that really intimidates you. Something that you haven’t begun working towards because it challenges your comfort zone.

That could be…

Getting a job (or a better job). Making more friends. Getting in shape. Writing a book. Or meeting more women – both in-person and online.

So why haven’t you taken any steps to reach that goal?

Whenever you undertake a new endeavor that makes you feel vulnerable, your mind runs wild trying to talk you out of it. Your self-doubt becomes deafening and all you can think about are the worst possible scenarios.

“You Are Not Everyone’s Cup Of Tea”

September 26, 2022

(photo: @mrrrk_smith)

The world is filled with people who, no matter what you do, no matter what you try, will simply not like you. But the world is also filled with those who will love you fiercely. The ones who love you: they are your people.

Don’t waste your finite time and heart trying to convince people who aren’t your people that you have value. They will miss it completely. They won’t buy what you are selling. Don’t try to convince them to walk your path with you because you will only waste your time and your emotional good health. You are not for them and they are not for you. You are not their cup of tea and they are not yours.

Politely wave them along and you move away as well. Seek to share your path with those who recognize and appreciate your gifts, who you are.

It’s Never Too Late

August 26, 2022

pain is temporary

We tend to see life in sections rather than a continuous journey. We box it up and stack its sections in an order that’s almost taboo to break.

We set targets by age, and once past a specific age, we convince ourselves that the target has been missed and the opportunity squandered.

“Oh, I’m too old for all that”.

“I can’t go back to study now”.

“Concerts are for young people”.

“I’d love to have travelled when I was younger”.

“I love it, but I’d feel silly wearing It”.

“People will think I’m crazy”.

No, You Can’t Make a Person Change

July 18, 2022

(photo: @elcuervo)

We’ve all had that one person—that one person in our lives that we always find ourselves saying, “If only they would…” Month after month, year after year—we love them, we care about them, we worry for them, but when we turn off the light or hang up the phone, we think to ourselves, “If only they would…”

Or maybe it’s a friend. Maybe you see them fucking up left, right, and center. Drinking too much. Cheating on their partner. Blowing all their money on their odd yet obsessive go-kart hobby. You pull them aside and give them the hands-on-the-shoulders pep talk that friends are supposed to do. Maybe you offer to take a look at their bank statement and maybe even give them a loan or two. Meanwhile, in the back of your head, you keep thinking:

“If only they would get their shit together…”

Stop Waiting. Start Doing.

March 23, 2022

Stop waiting. Start doing. It’s all too easy to tell ourselves that once we lose twenty pounds, we’ll be happy, or once we have more free time, we’ll start reading more, or once we’re on that new project at work and have shorter hours, we’ll start going back to the gym. We think we’re too busy now to do that thing we want to do, or we’ll be happy once we’ve done that thing, but we haven’t even started working on it.

A Lifetime Of Regret

March 15, 2022

lifetime of regret

I was born into a normal family. I wasn’t abused. I wasn’t dirt poor, I didn’t grow up devoid of opportunities.

Physically I am a perfectly average man, around six feet tall, normal physique. I have all my hair still, got all my teeth and everything.

You could walk past me on the street and you wouldn’t have a clue that I’m a lonely man. You wouldn’t know I’m miserable.

How Much Can You Know About Yourself If You Never Been In A Fight

February 1, 2022

Fighting isn’t macho. It’s not how a man proves himself to another man or how he proves himself to a lady. Fighting has nothing to do with anything but the individual and his desire to prove to himself that he can face his fears, that he can take the pain of getting hit and hit back.

Discipline Is One Of The Most Necessary Traits For Success

January 12, 2022

discipline

(photo: @joshuaearle)

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” as the great Jim Rohn would say. One of the greatest life lessons that my grandpa taught me from an early age was that there is a right time and place for everything. You need to be disciplined enough in life in order to stay sharp and understand the right balance of everything coming your way and everything you are taking on.

What was once considered to be a respected and admirable quality has taken the backseat in this generation that doesn’t really know how to say no to anything. What we have ultimately become are a people that have forgot how to sacrifice and work hard. We opt for the easy way out, the sexy, the here and now and that is because the discipline is gone and we’re only after what appeases and appeals to us in the moment.
