The Most Important Life-Changing Habit in Two Words: START NOW

Millions of people are convinced that something must change in their lives to be better, to live life to the fullest or pursue something meaningful.

That project, that blog, that podcast, that ebook, that art, that side project is what I’m talking about.

Many people consistently hold back, and waste precious time.

“Until Thought Is Linked With Purpose There Is No Intelligent Accomplishment.”

December 6, 2021

Until thought is linked with purpose there is no intelligent accomplishment. With the majority the barque of thought is allowed to drift upon the ocean of life. Aimlessness is a vice, and such drifting must not continue for him who would steer clear of catastrophe and destruction.

They who have no central purpose in their life fall an easy prey to petty worries, fears, troubles, and self-pitying, all of which lead, just as surely as deliberately planned sins (though by a different route), to failure, unhappiness, and loss, for weakness cannot persist in a power-evolving universe.

I Hate My Life

November 1, 2021

Your alarm goes off at 6:30 am.

Stumbling out of bed, you brew a strong cup of coffee to get through the day. Sitting in your car, you pause before starting the engine. “I can’t keep doing this”, you think to yourself.

Driving to work, you arrive at your soul-sucking job with only minutes to spare. As you walk through the office doors an all too familiar feeling creeps in.

You hate it here. You hate the menial tasks that fill your waking hours. You hate the manager who seems to revel in breathing down your neck.

Sinking into your chair, you stare numbly at your computer, a single thought commandeering your conscious mind.

“I hate myself and I hate my life”

15 Incredibly Useful Pieces of Advice To Help You On You Travels Through Life

June 14, 2021

1. Inflation in the last year was 4.2%. If you get (or got) a raise less than that, then you got a pay cut

Reminder that usually a “cost of living” raise is to match inflation, usually 2%. So getting a 3% raise is usually just a little more than cost of living.

The report came out today that in the last year, inflation was 4.2%. That means if you got a 3% raise, your purchasing power is less than this time last year.

I know that a lot of people are unemployed, but a lot also took pay cuts or pay freezes or crappy raises last year (and probably more work to offset layoffs, but that’s for a different discussion). Now that the job market is picking up, inflation is definitely something to consider.

Stop Apologizing For Being Yourself

June 1, 2021

We fear that people won’t like us, respect us, or value us if we don’t “fit in”.

Why do we fear that so much? It’s a waste of energy.

Like all fears, it’s unnecessary. Look, you’re not going to die alone when you become yourself 24/7.

It’s not only a waste of energy, but it’s also a waste of LIFE, if you’re not living it on your terms.

I believe that you should live the way YOU want. You should always say and do what YOU want. I don’t care where in the world you live. “That’s not what we do in our country.” Find a way!

Because what’s the alternative? Do you want to shut down your true personality and become some robot that’s programmed by society or other people?

No one deserves that.

The Daily Man-Up

As a self-loathing, chronic procrastinator I’ve often ridden the self improvement train. You know, the “I just watched 5 motivational videos of The Rock saying you can do anything you set your mind to, and today I’m going to change my entire life, omg yes” train. Of course, that effort never quite ends the way we’d envision it; with the new lifestyle lasting all of a week before we’re back to old habits.

self belief

(photo: @joshuaearle)

You can spend your whole life listening to other people tell you that it’s not possible or that you will never pull it off or you can listen to yourself, believe in yourself and back yourself!

It doesn’t matter what other people say or think it only matters what you think and what you believe is possible for you!

Whatever your vision, goal or dream is you have to know with absolute faith and conviction that you will get there and you will make it happen and that starts with believing in yourself and knowing exactly what you want!

You become unstoppable when your purpose becomes clear within your own mind and when you believe with everything you have that it’s possible and when you finally stand up and declare that you will not stop until you get exactly what you want!

Be relentless and so determined that no one or nothing can deny you or separate you from what you truly believe in!

It Would Be A Tragedy To Never Face Adversity In Life

No man is more unhappy than he who never faces adversity. for he is not permitted to prove himself. ~ Seneca

In our society, it’s the man who is born into wealth who is viewed as being blessed with a gift that he did not have to earn. But it is the man born into much adversity who is given the greatest gift of all: the gift to test his mettle, to prove his worth, to see what he is, indeed, made of.

It’s while this man is facing obstacle after obstacle that, if he so chooses, will acquire far more grit and toughness than his counterpart who’s faced little in the way of tribulation.

The Daily Man-Up: 5 Lessons Learned In Prison

lessons learned in prison

Everything is Temporary

When I was in prison, it felt like I would be there forever. That my permanent state of being was uncertainty and pain. I felt as though I would be worthless for the remainder of my life. Once I looked beyond the fear and anxiety, I understood there was an expiration date. I didn’t know when, but I knew there was one. That alone gave me the strength to endure. This is the power of impermanence.

A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.
