The 6 Best Episodes of the Twilight Zone from the 1985 Revivial

April 4, 2024

Twilight Zone 1985

When the 1985 revival of “The Twilight Zone” made its debut, it faced the monumental task of living up to the legacy of Rod Serling’s original series – a show that had redefined the boundaries of television with its thought-provoking blend of science fiction, fantasy, and psychological horror.

While it’s a widely held view that the revival didn’t quite capture the full magic and depth of its predecessor, it did, without a doubt, deliver a handful of episodes that not only resonated with fans but also would likely have garnered the approval of Serling himself.

15 Homeowners Reveal the Most Ludicrous Quote They Ever Received from a Contractor

April 4, 2024

ridiculous_quotes

1. I had to call a plumber because a toilet float was busted and I couldn’t remove it no matter how hard I tried. They came and “found” all sorts of things “wrong” and quoted me almost $4k. A quick visit to Google and 1 phone-a-friend showed that they were full of sheet. I finally had to break the overflow tube to get it off but successfully replaced it for $15.

It was replacing whole toilet and completely (and unnecessarily) disassemble the bathroom and main drain (loo, sink, shower) to “bring it to code.”

Parenting Matters: “When I Look at My Daughter, I See Myself… And It Hurts”

April 4, 2024

Parenting

I am struggling with my relationship with my 12-year-old daughter and desperately need guidance. The truth is, as much as I love her, I find it very difficult to connect with her or even enjoy being around her.

My daughter is awkward, insecure, and doesn’t seem to fit in with her peers – a carbon copy of myself at that age. When i look at my daughter, i see myself… and it hurts. Seeing those painful traits resurface in her brings back a lot of my own unresolved issues from being an awkward preteen myself. I was an ugly duckling – glasses, bad teeth, never had the right clothes or friends. Now I see my daughter struggling socially in the same ways and it triggers so much anxiety and discomfort in me.

I know she can sense that I pull away from her. Hugging her feels forced, even though objectively I know she’s a great kid. With my younger sons, affection comes easily. But with my daughter, my own baggage gets in the way. The more she exhibits the traits I hated in myself, the more critical and impatient I find myself being with her.

Confession of the Day

April 3, 2024

My best friend off 2 years seems to think we’re in a relationship and decided to publicly propose to me.

Frankly I’m still in shock that this happened so this might be all over the place. Bear with me. All fake names etc etc.

Jordan and I met in University two years ago. We both started at the same time and because of our ages we were both considered ‘mature’ students.

  1. I was stabbed in the neck by someone robbing my house. I totally thought I was going to die. I hate myself, but I begged the guy who stabbed me to stay because I didn’t want to die alone. He said “Sorry” and walked away. That fucking broke my heart. Thankfully he called 911 for me.

Money Matters: “I Have $120,000 in My Savings Parents What Me to Pay off Their House”

April 3, 2024

lending money to parents

$120,000 in my savings, parents what me to pay off their house.

I’m 25 years old and live with my parents and make $52,000 a year after taxes. I spend about 9k a year on food gas clothes etc. My parents have about 110ish left to pay of on their and are expected to pay off in 11 years. I believe the interest rate is somewhere between 3-4%. Would I save them a significant amount of money paying off their house and having them pay me back in 5 years or would it be better for me to invest my money and open a high yield savings account.

Let’s get straight to the point: Your plan to pay off your parents’ mortgage and have them pay you back in 5 years is fraught with financial and emotional landmines.

If the logic here is that they can pay you back in such a short timeframe, it begs the question: Why aren’t they just as aggressive in paying down the mortgage themselves? This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about the complexities of intertwining financial dependency with family dynamics.

What Happens When You Tie Your Identity to External Metrics

April 3, 2024

Validation

Tying one’s identity to external metrics—such as job titles, academic achievements, social media followers, or even the approval of others—can have profound implications on mental health and overall well-being.

This process of external validation often begins subtly, but over time, it can lead to a fragile sense of self that is heavily dependent on maintaining or enhancing these external markers of ‘success.’
