Confession of the Day

November 21, 2023

I(m45) cheated on my wife (f41). It changed her fundamentally. She has always been this bubbly and cheerful woman with her beautiful smile never leaving her face. She makes everything better and has the ability to make people happy around her wherever she goes. Now she is distant, silent and

I haven’t seen her smile since it happened a year ago. When we got back together after a small break, she told me that she was fully aware about our declining sex life and her role in that. She said that she didn’t know if or when she ever could sleep with me again. She said that she couldn’t handle the pressure of needing to heal fast not to lose me again, for me not to cheat again, so she said that I could still sleep with the OW. She just doesn’t want to know when. And not in our home.

I hate myself for what she has become. Like a broken bird. When I talk to her about divorce, her tears just starts pouring and she asks if I didn’t love her anymore. I do. More than anything but I want to set her free. But her tears. I can’t.

The only thing she hasn’t changed is her kiss in the morning. She starts very early and before leaving she kisses me goodbye and whispers I love you. I pretend that she I’m sleeping. When I hear the door locks I break down crying. I cry for a good hour before it’s time for me to go to work too.

I hate myself every day for what I have done to her.

The Myth and Reality of Blowing into NES Cartridges

November 21, 2023

For many of us who grew up with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), blowing into game cartridges was a universally accepted solution to make non-working games spring back to life. This practice, deeply ingrained in gaming culture, was accepted as an effective fix, but a deeper dive into the history and mechanics of the NES reveals a more complex reality, turning this widespread habit into one of gaming’s greatest urban legends.

LAN Party

A local area network (LAN) party is when people get together in a physical space to connect their computers or consoles to the same LAN network and play video games. LAN parties became popular in the 1990s when broadband internet was expensive and uncommon. LAN parties vary in size, from a get-together with a few friends to a major event involving hundreds of strangers.

LAN parties used to be the perfect way to play multiplayer games without relying on split-screen gameplay, often limiting the experience to a maximum of four players.

Common games at LAN parties were those that benefited most from the low-latency and high-reliability environment that a local network provided. First-person shooters (FPS) were particularly popular. Titles like “Counter-Strike,” “Quake,” and “Unreal Tournament” were staples of the LAN party scene.

The Dangers of Cheap Dopamine

November 21, 2023

In an age where instant gratification is just a click away, the pursuit of ‘cheap dopamine’ has become increasingly common. But what is cheap dopamine, and why should we be concerned about it?

Dopamine, often referred to as the ‘feel-good hormone,’ plays a critical role in our brain’s reward system. It ensured our survival by motivating us to perform essential tasks like eating and procreating. However, the modern world has engineered ways to trigger these dopamine releases artificially and excessively – through things like scrolling mindlessly through social media feeds, binge watching shows, consuming pornography, eating highly processed junk foods loaded with sugar, online shopping just for the thrill of it. These things lure us in by hijacking the brain’s reward system, making us feel good without having to work for it.

How Do You Draw Boundaries Around This Situation?

November 20, 2023

Is a visit from the “in-laws”every 1.5 months for 2 weeks too much?

I NEVER agreed to it. I said one week max. But once they’re here they would ask to stay. Now suddenly 2 weeks in the normal. I said if it’s two weeks it has to be two months in between. Then it inches closer together. Now the norm has become 2 weeks every 1.5 months…and shaving off days of the in between.

They’re overbearing, take over the house, criticize and comment on how to raise our child.

And I feel like I’m being gaslit into thinking that it’s not even that often or that much because they just want to see their grandchild.

I’m going insane. I didn’t get off to a good start with them. Basically treated me like an insect until I got pregnant.

Theyre in the east coast and we’re in the Midwest.

What do I even do. Even if I had a good relationship with them I feel like it’s still A LOT of time to basically be living with them.

What Is the Psychology behind a Compulsive Liar?

November 20, 2023

We’ve all known a compulsive liar. The person who embellishes stories, tweaks facts, or fully concocts fictions both big and small. This habit of excessive lying often springs from deeper psychological motives that compel thefabrication of an alternate reality. For chronic liars, stories are a shield against facing truths that engender deep seated insecurity and fear of rejection.

Lying behavior falls on a spectrum, and many people bend the truth on occasion without reaching clinical levels of pathology. But truly compulsive liars habitually invent entire narratives detached from their real lives. These lies are often more than simply boastful; they form a fantasy world that helps the liar manage anxieties and soothe emotional needs.
