This afternoon I was contacted by a mysterious number saying they were with the Cartel and I needed to pay them money or they would kill me and my family.
They then sent me dozens of horrible, bloody, pictures of dead bodies. Not the movie kind. The Cartel kind.
After the barrage of pictures they then sent my parents address which included their names and the names of my sisters threatening to kill them unless I responded.
Please, please be aware this IS A SCAM and you are not in danger.
There exist devices that look like flash drives, but actually emulate keyboards to hack your computer, or use capacitors to fry your computer.

S.M.A.R.T. is a popular acronym/method that significantly improves your chances of achieving your goal.
Specific – instead of saying, “I want to lose weight this year”, set a specific weight. “I want to lose 25 lbs by 2021”
Measurable – 25 lbs is the goal and you can see your progress along the way
Achievable – 25 lbs is something one could do without significant risk to their health (depending on their weight)
Realistic/Relevant – Can you do it? Is it worth the time?
Time oriented – “I want to lose 10 lbs by month 6, 15 by month 8, 25 by 12”.

Creepy is not paying attention to the subtle social signals that someone gives you to back off a bit.
A man is creepy when he doesn’t meet you halfway, or even pay attention to what you might want and just takes you in like you owe him or like you are an object.
Most girls (or people in general) don’t like to straight-up tell you “Go away,” but they’ll send a number of signals to indicate that they’re uncomfortable or don’t want to talk to you.
If you get into a squabble with somebody and you get your head busted, as long as you don’t snitch, as long as you put up a good fight and as long as you didn’t run away, you still can get respect

I’m in Mexico on business — I travel a bit. I also consider myself generally savvy and aware of scams. I knew about virtual kidnapping and all that, but I’ll admit that my asleep brain fell for this for just a little bit. I hadn’t seen this before, so I thought I’d share.
So I wanted to write about a scam I *almost* fell for recently. I haven’t seen anything else out there about it. I don’t consider myself gullible and these people were prepared for savvy folks.
