In 1978, an Indian man travelled from India to Sweden on a bicycle to reunite with a woman he met while she was on vacation in India. Travelling through 8 different countries, the journey took him a total of 4 months. 43 years on the couple are still happily married in Sweden

The man remembers very clearly the day when prophecy became a real story. The beautiful journey began on December 17, 1975. Back then, Kumar was a street artist. A beautiful blonde woman with blue eyes, named Charlotte Von Schedvin, asked him to draw a portrait of her. “When she appeared before my easel, I felt as though I didn’t have any weight. Words are not accurate enough to express such a feeling,” he said. “Her eyes were so blue and big and round, I felt as if she was not looking at me, she was looking inside me, like an X-ray machine!” The nervous young man couldn’t properly draw a woman of his dreams the first time, so he asked Charlotte to come back another day. “She ended up coming back three times, and I did three portraits, ” he said. “After the second time, I felt, she’s the one!” It turns out the mysterious foreign woman was born under the sign of Taurus, owns a forest and plays the flute, just as the prophecy said. “You will be my wife. We were destined to meet.” Kumar told his one real love.

Joe Carter, a African American man, prepares to face the Klan after trying to vote, picture was taken by Bob Adelman in 1964

Reverend Carter, expecting a visit from the Klan after he has dared to register to vote, stands guard on his front porch, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.

That night vigilant neighbors scattered in the woods near his farmhouse, which was at the end of a long dirt road, to help him if trouble arrived.

‘If they want a fight, we’ll fight,’

‘If I have to die, I’d rather die for right.’

‘I value my life more since I became a registered voter. A man is not a first-class citizen, a number one citizen, unless he is a voter.’

After Election Day came and went, Reverend Carter added, ‘I thanked the Lord that he let me live long enough to vote.’

hopkinsville aliens

Around 11 PM on August 21, 1955, eight people showed up at the Hopkinsville, Kentucky police station in a state of panic. “We need help,” one gasped. “We’ve been fighting them for nearly four hours.” They quickly explained that the “them” were aliens — creatures with glowing yellow eyes, silvery skin, and long arms who had swooped in from out of the sky. While it may have sounded outlandish, multiple witnesses soon corroborated the story.

On the evening of August 21, 1955, five adults and seven children arrived at the Hopkinsville police station claiming that small alien creatures from a spaceship were attacking their farmhouse and they had been holding them off with gunfire "for nearly four hours". Two of the adults, Elmer Sutton and Billy Ray Taylor, claimed they had been shooting at "twelve to fifteen" short, dark figures who repeatedly popped up at the doorway or peered into the windows.

At 380 feet long, the Tomb of Ramesses V & VI is one of the largest in the Valley of the Kings — circa 1137 BCE

This is the Tomb of Ramesses V & VI, one of the longest and most expansive tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The first six chambers were built by Ramesses V, then completed by his successor, Ramesses VI.

Both kings were buried here, but their mummies were removed and hidden elsewhere sometime after the tomb was robbed in antiquity. Many of the bodies of the rulers of the New Kingdom were moved to other locations to save them from those looking to snatch some treasure.

barbary lion last photo

This is widely believed to be the last ever photo taken of a Barbary Lion (a species now extinct). The picture was taken from on board a Casablanca-Dacar flight in 1925.

Barbary Lions were among the largest lions ever, and were famously used for entertainment/fights in Gladiator Arenas.

The Romans killed thousands of lions in their games, the Arab empire that followed squeezed the remaining animals into smaller territories, and the arrival of European hunters in the 19th century polished them off. Europeans killed so many of these animals that they were quickly exterminated from most of their remaining historic range.

man buys first class ticket to get free meals at lounge

A man in China purchased a first-class plane ticket — and used it to eat a year’s worth of free meals at the VIP lounge at Xi’an International Airport.

The frequent diner purchased a first-class, fully refundable ticket aboard Eastern China Airline. He used the ticket to gain access to the airport’s VIP lounge, where high-rolling travelers dine for free, according to a report last week in the Chinese-language newspaper Kwong Wah Yit Poh in Malaysia. The man re-booked his first-class ticket over and over again and kept the gravy train rolling. Eastern China Airlines officials only recently figured out the man’s scheme after noticing his single ticket being re-booked 300 times over one year, according to the newspaper report. Airline officials admitted there was nothing they could do to stop the frequent diner.

A local fisherman in Costa Rica nursed a crocodile back to health after it had being shot in the head, and released the reptile back to its home. The next day, the man discovered “Pocho” had followed him home and was sleeping on the mans porch. For 20 years Pocho became part of the mans family

A kind local man named Chito Shedden stumbled upon the starving, suffering croc. Little did he know, that was the day he’d become the crocodile’s caretaker, guardian angel, and best friend. Chico couldn’t bear to let the crocodile die. He named him Pocho, and dedicated himself to nursing the poor animal back to health. “I just wanted him to feel that someone loved him, that not all humans are bad,” Chito told The Tico Times. “I love all animals, especially ones that have suffered.”
