April 5, 2024

Suffering

Let’s cut the crap: life can be a real shit-show sometimes. We’ve all had those moments where it feels like the universe is taking a giant cosmic dump on our dreams and grinding our hopes into a fine, sad powder.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the key to a good life is to minimize pain and maximize pleasure. But what if I told you that the opposite is true?

Tough Financial Situation of the Day

April 4, 2024

I’m in 250k worth of debt and I’m seriously considering going back to school

So I recently stumbled across a new career prospect that I’m extremely interested in . It’s in the medical field and I’d be making upwards of 150-200k right after graduating from the 2.5 years of schooling. The only issue I’m having is that I’m already in over 240k worth of high interest student loan debt . I currently make 70k working 2 jobs and I know my salary will increase but it’ll probably take another 7-10 years before even reaching $150k .

Is it worth applying for the program? It’s a very rigorous program and I can’t possibly work through it. I’m also on only 1 income at the moment so I’ll be responsible for covering living expenses for my self and my mother who lives with me.

This job will give me such a good quality of life after , but I’ll like come out owing $400k since interest on my current loans will keep accruing while in college.

The 6 Best Episodes of the Twilight Zone from the 1985 Revivial

April 4, 2024

Twilight Zone 1985

When the 1985 revival of “The Twilight Zone” made its debut, it faced the monumental task of living up to the legacy of Rod Serling’s original series – a show that had redefined the boundaries of television with its thought-provoking blend of science fiction, fantasy, and psychological horror.

While it’s a widely held view that the revival didn’t quite capture the full magic and depth of its predecessor, it did, without a doubt, deliver a handful of episodes that not only resonated with fans but also would likely have garnered the approval of Serling himself.

15 Homeowners Reveal the Most Ludicrous Quote They Ever Received from a Contractor

April 4, 2024

ridiculous_quotes

1. I had to call a plumber because a toilet float was busted and I couldn’t remove it no matter how hard I tried. They came and “found” all sorts of things “wrong” and quoted me almost $4k. A quick visit to Google and 1 phone-a-friend showed that they were full of sheet. I finally had to break the overflow tube to get it off but successfully replaced it for $15.

It was replacing whole toilet and completely (and unnecessarily) disassemble the bathroom and main drain (loo, sink, shower) to “bring it to code.”

Parenting Matters: “When I Look at My Daughter, I See Myself… And It Hurts”

April 4, 2024

Parenting

I am struggling with my relationship with my 12-year-old daughter and desperately need guidance. The truth is, as much as I love her, I find it very difficult to connect with her or even enjoy being around her.

My daughter is awkward, insecure, and doesn’t seem to fit in with her peers – a carbon copy of myself at that age. When i look at my daughter, i see myself… and it hurts. Seeing those painful traits resurface in her brings back a lot of my own unresolved issues from being an awkward preteen myself. I was an ugly duckling – glasses, bad teeth, never had the right clothes or friends. Now I see my daughter struggling socially in the same ways and it triggers so much anxiety and discomfort in me.

I know she can sense that I pull away from her. Hugging her feels forced, even though objectively I know she’s a great kid. With my younger sons, affection comes easily. But with my daughter, my own baggage gets in the way. The more she exhibits the traits I hated in myself, the more critical and impatient I find myself being with her.
