Why Does Korea Have A Marriage Problem?

February 8, 2023

More than 42 percent of 30-somethings in South Korea remained unmarried last year, census data showed Monday, underscoring the trend in which many young people delay or give up on marriage amid a prolonged economic slowdown.

The percentage of unmarried people in their 30s reached 42.5 percent last year, up 6.2 percentage points from 36.3 percent in 2015, the data showed. [Read more…] about Why Does Korea Have A Marriage Problem?

Picture of the Day

February 8, 2023

pale blue dot

That dot is Earth. A mote of dust, suspended between the rings of Saturn, photographed by the Cassini spacecraft at a distance of 1.4 billion kilometers.

Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there–on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Consequence Of Inaction Is Always Greater Than The Consequence From Action

February 8, 2023

I haven’t been alive too long, but I’ve just noticed that taking action has less of a damaging effect than not taking action. It may damage you financially, but over time, you may come to recover that money. But on the whole, here’s what I mean:

A lot of people are afraid of taking action and executing because they feel they’re going to mess up and diminish their self-image, destroy their financial standing, or some other type of fear.

The Ending of 2001 Space Odyssey Explained

February 7, 2023

2001 Space Odyseey

Gelmis: Did you deliberately try for ambiguity as opposed to a specific meaning for any scene or image?

Kubrick: No, I didn’t have to try for ambiguity; it was inevitable. And I think in a film like 2001, where each viewer brings his own emotions and perceptions to bear on the subject matter, a certain degree of ambiguity is valuable, because it allows the audience to “fill in” the visual experience themselves. In any case, once you’re dealing on a nonverbal level, ambiguity is unavoidable. But it’s the ambiguity of all art, of a fine piece of music or a painting — you don’t need written instructions by the composer or painter accompanying such works to “explain” them. “Explaining” them contributes nothing but a superficial “cultural” value which has no value except for critics and teachers who have to earn a living. Reactions to art are always different because they are always deeply personal.

The Fundamentals of Touching, When it Comes To Dating

February 7, 2023

A few of you are new to dating. That can be tough to begin with, but when you haven’t had any guidance, it can be terrifying. Life isn’t the same now as it once was, anyone who denies that is just a liar… specifically in that there’s less personal reaction taking place in person than ever before. It makes it harder to navigate.

With that in mind, here are some tips, with examples, of how to initiate touching. I’m extremely traditional and old fashioned. Why? Because I have watched it work and helped tens of thousands of people use traditional methods to make their relationships work/ work again. If you don’t want traditional roles of male versus female, I welcome your back button into the conversation at this time. 😉
