Social Media Is Ruining Your Self-Esteem

November 21, 2022

It’s 7am and you hear your iPhone start buzzing through your heavy slumber. It’s your alarm. You have to be at work in thirty minutes. You shut off your alarm, but you don’t set down your phone to get ready.

The first thing you do is open up your Instagram app. It’s a natural habit at this point to check your social media when you get up in the morning.

Life Advice From A 60-Year-Old Man

October 24, 2022

(photo: @wadeaustinellis)

I keep hearing about “adulting” and how hard it is. Well, it is hard and doesn’t get easier.

At almost 60, I still get scared, overwhelmed and don’t know what to do sometimes. I still have sleepless nights and wonder what the hell I’m going to do about some situations.

The difference is I can use my experience in prior situations to assess the current one. Or, even better, I have a circle of family/friends/professionals that I can go to for advice. Ones that I trust, not the one on the next barstool or such.

What Other Choice Do You Have?

October 11, 2022

(photo: @kfred)

Think of an important goal you wish you could achieve.

Something that really intimidates you. Something that you haven’t begun working towards because it challenges your comfort zone.

That could be…

Getting a job (or a better job). Making more friends. Getting in shape. Writing a book. Or meeting more women – both in-person and online.

So why haven’t you taken any steps to reach that goal?

Whenever you undertake a new endeavor that makes you feel vulnerable, your mind runs wild trying to talk you out of it. Your self-doubt becomes deafening and all you can think about are the worst possible scenarios.

Suffering and Spiritual Freedom

October 6, 2022

The experiences of camp life show that man does have a choice of action. There were enough examples, often of a heroic nature, which proved that apathy could be overcome, irritability suppressed. Man can preserve a vestige of spiritual freedom, of independence of mind, even in such terrible conditions of psychic and physical stress.

We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms –to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s way.

The Importance Of Remembering A Person’s Name

October 4, 2022

remembering names

Franklin D. Roosevelt knew that one of the simplest, most obvious and most important ways of gaining good will was by remembering names and making people feel important – yet how many of us do it?

Half the time we are introduced to a stranger, we chat a few minutes and can’t even remember his or her name by the time we say goodbye.

Kill The Boy And Let The Man Be Born

September 13, 2022

are you a real man

(photo: @zacdurant)

When you’re a boy, it’s alright to do kid things. That’s what our childhood and teenage years are for.

But with each passing year, the line between “boy” and “man” is becoming blurred. We’re taking longer to move out, find steady jobs and get married. We delay the responsibilities of manhood to enjoy ourselves for longer.

How The Power Of Forgiveness Will Set You Free

forgiveness

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” — Lewis B. Smedes

Forgiveness does not erase the past, but looks upon it with compassion.

To withhold forgiveness keeps alive emotions of hurt, anger and blame which discolour your perception of life.

To forgive, avoid ruminating on thoughts of being wronged. Rather, trust the power of forgiveness to heal the hurt and pain.

By holding on to pain and resentment, you suffer because the sorrow is intensified to keep it alive.

Prioritize Your Sleep

August 19, 2022

Not getting enough sleep impacts your ability to focus. It makes it harder to stay on task and come up with new ideas. It also affects your ability to make decisions. Like, you know when there’s something that you need to do, but you keep deciding to watch Netflix instead? Getting enough sleep can help with that.

If you get enough sleep, your work will be better, your focus will be better, and you’ll have more willpower. All of this stuff leads to better self-discipline.

Being Overstimulated Is The Cause Of The Lack Of Discipline

August 2, 2022

overstimulation

It sounds simple, but when I’ve realized it – it helped me a lot. I’ll try to share it.

The root problem with many productivity issues is being constantly overstimulated.

People often tell “I was doing nothing the entire day instead of working” while the truth is that you were not doing nothing. You were stimulating your brain all the time using social media or something else.
