Caveman Approved Product of the Week

October 30, 2020

Never wait for hot water again. This thing is easy to install. Maybe 15 minutes. Easy to program. Runs two hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. Sips electricity. Uses about 30 watts, which is your ceiling fan set to ultra-low

The pump hooks up to the top of your water heater, and to the sink furthest from the water heater. It will run on a timer and pump hot water into the pipes using the cold water line as the return line. It also has a temp valve so it does not pump your cold water line with a bunch of hot water.

This means you always have hot water at your sinks. Especially good for those 2+ story homes where the water has to travel a good distance to get to the sink. I now do not have to wait for my hot water to heat up to wash my hands / shower. It is the greatest feeling being able to turn on the water and have it nicely warmed up, not freezing cold when you go to wash your hands.

lessons learned from prison

The World Breaks Everyone: 3 Steps I Learned In Prison to Put Myself Back Together

I was arrested by the FBI, pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud and was sentenced to two years of Federal Prison.

I lost everything. All because of the choices I made.

It’s been an incredible, challenging, frightening journey. A massive part of that journey was the fall to my personal rock-bottom.

That fall led me to write the following on New Years Day, 2015, my TEDx chronicles that journey in even more detail if you are interested.

“I cannot shake the image that 2015 is going to be the year I put a bullet in my head. I see myself making it through prison, making it to halfway, and the next vision I see is a pistol in my mouth or at my temple. I want to tell someone but I’m ashamed. I’m ashamed of being weak. I know how much it would hurt my loved ones. But the way I feel, the self-loathing, the amount of shame I carry, I have a hard time being in front of my loved ones. I’m no good to them, I can’t even face them. Why won’t it just end?”

Cross Section Of Different Bullets

Why do the bullets have different gun powder? Some of them it is finer and some more corse.

The grain size and shape effects the burn rate of the powder. The faster the burn, the more impulse it will have. The goal is to have a charge burn for the duration of when the bullet is in the barrel of the gun, so faster burn or not loading enough grains will be inefficient because you aren’t providing enough energy, more like slapping a drag car and expecting it to make the quarter mile. Too much powder charge can be dangerous for chamber pressure and can cause physical failure of the case and firearm, and too long of a burn is just inefficient because you’re burning after the bullet is long gone, like holding the gas pedal to the floor well after your drag car has passed the quarter mile mark and the race is over.

October 28, 2020

1

What happens when we die? Ramin Nazer’s comic “After You Die” answers that very question.

It’s a brilliantly-done look at the various after-death scenarios posed by world religions, science and philosophy. The comic covers the many possible futures that await a human being upon shuffling off this mortal coil. Never has existential dread looked so colorful!

The great question of what happens when we die has been asked by every human being that has ever lived. That means billions and billions.
