Why Aren’t There Big Rock Bands Anymore?

August 25, 2021

The big issue with “rock” or really any guitar based music outside of country is multifold.

So with the collapse of the major labels due to multiple factors but mostly utterly and completely fucking up the transition to digital music they are not nearly as big and powerful as they once were. The major label focus shifted towards low investment, high yield artists since 2005 or so. The three most popular genres for this are rap, country and crossover pop music. I will give examples for all three.

The Grateful Dead’s “Wall of Sound” was a massive sound system designed by LSD chemist, Owsley Stanley. Jr.

The Wall of Sound fulfilled Owsley’s desire for a distortion-free sound system that could also serve as its own monitoring system.

After Stanley got out of prison in late 1972, he, Dan Healy and Mark Raizene of the Grateful Dead’s sound crew, in collaboration with Ron Wickersham, Rick Turner, and John Curl of Alembic, combined six independent sound systems using eleven separate channels, in an effort to deliver high-quality sound to audiences.

Vocals, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and piano each had their own channel and set of speakers.

What Are The Inner Thoughts Of Someone Suffering From Anorexia?

August 24, 2021

anorexia

I don’t know how to qualify the way I viewed myself. Days I knew I was too thin and others where I viewed myself as in need of losing weight. Small things, skin roll when sitting, bloating, skin pinching, that made me obsessed over every ounce of fat.

I don’t think I viewed myself as fat or obese, necessarily. I was aware and unaware of being thin. I knew my ribs sticked, I knew I looked I’ll. But the need, the will, the absolute triumph I felt when my weight dropped trumped everything else. This feeling mattered more to me than the consequences, I felt important, I felt good and in control.

eugenia cooney

Eugenia Cooney is an American YouTuber and Twitch streamer who’s YouTube channel has garnered over two million subscribers

In October 2016, petitions were made to ban her from YouTube as some internet users believed she was promoting dangerous eating habits, and creating pro anorexia content. Around that time, Cooney stated that she did not have an eating disorder and refrained from discussing her weight and eating habits.

Pro-anorexia (pro-ana) groups differ widely in their stances. Most claim that they exist mainly as a non-judgmental environment for anorexics; a place to turn to, to discuss their illness, and to support those who choose to enter recovery. Others deny anorexia nervosa is a mental illness and claim instead that it is a “lifestyle choice” that should be respected by doctors and family.

Iron And The Soul

August 23, 2021

henry rollins

(photo: @aloragriffiths)

I believe that the definition of definition is reinvention. To not be like your parents. To not be like your friends. To be yourself.

Completely.

When I was young I had no sense of myself. All I was, was a product of all the fear and humiliation I suffered. Fear of my parents. The humiliation of teachers calling me “garbage can” and telling me I’d be mowing lawns for a living. And the very real terror of my fellow students. I was threatened and beaten up for the color of my skin and my size. I was skinny and clumsy, and when others would tease me I didn’t run home crying, wondering why.

I knew all too well. I was there to be antagonized. In sports I was laughed at. A spaz. I was pretty good at boxing but only because the rage that filled my every waking moment made me wild and unpredictable. I fought with some strange fury. The other boys thought I was crazy.
