The Guatemalan Special forces, the Kaibiles, are infamous for forcing recruits to raise a puppy, bonding with it and then killing and eating it.

They specialize in jungle warfare tactics and counter-insurgency operations. Since 1974, more than 1,250 soldiers have graduated from the international training programme, which has a duration of eight weeks.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Kaibil Centre’s mission is to train and develop elite commando forces: "To select, by means of arduous, difficult training under physical and mental pressure, members of the army capable of engaging in commando operations."

How Easily Would The U.S. Military Take Omaha Beach Today?

August 24, 2023

omaha beach vs modern military

The most important difference between 1944 and today would be in the realm of guided munitions.

I once heard that a single F-15 packs as much firepower as an entire squadron of World War II–era bombers when you take into account explosive weight and the percentage of ordnance you can get on target. (Keep in mind, the F-15 is a fighter/bomber, not a dedicated bomber. If we start talking about the B-52, things get even crazier.)

What Would Happen if The US Shrunk Its Military and Forced Other Countries to Protect Their Own Borders?

August 21, 2023

Sadly the US pulling back on it’s military will make the world a more dangerous place.

Currently, the world is enjoying the longest single period  of General Peace ever. Since the end of World War Two, the number of people who have died in a war is now just low, it’s at an all time low.

February 13, 2023

why do snipers need spotters

Normally, the most experienced sniper is the spotter and is responsible for identifying targets and directing the shooter’s rounds onto the target.

The Hellfire R9X aka “ninja bomb” that was used to kill Al-Qaeda’s leader, it doesn’t explode (no warhead). Instead slices and cuts its target into pieces to minimize collateral damage.

This missile has become the US weapon of choice for killing leaders of extremist groups while avoiding civilian casualties.

The missile is fired from a Predator drone. It has no warhead, but deploys six blades which fly in at high speed, crush and slice the targeted person.

This is the reason why it’s called the “flying ginsu”, after the 1980 TV commercial for Japanese kitchen knives that would cut cleanly through aluminum cans and remain perfectly sharp.

Confessions Of An Ex-Mercenary

September 7, 2022

mercenary interview

How does one become a mercenary ?

Typically you start somewhere. I was a US Army Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. Friends of friends found me, and got my first contract to go to Africa.

How’s the pay?

Pay can fluctuate. First of all, there’s a lot of deadbeats in this space. For example, Liberia asked me to create a littoral sea fighting force, but I couldn’t figure out how they would actually pay (regardless of promises) so I walked away. Never work for the UN. Total deadbeats.

How Does Russian Continue To Be A Threatening Super Power When It Has A Smaller Economy Than Italy And Canada?

March 10, 2022

Russia spends 3x times more of it’s Budget on the military than countries with a comparable economy, so it has far more military hardware and personnel. They also have mandatory military service.

The export a great deal of hardware from guns, vehicles, tanks, and airplanes to other nations which helps justify their R&D budget.

They also have huge amounts of surplus hardware left over from the Soviet Union. A lot of hardware the Russians are using is very old and much of the new state-of-art equipment they flaunt is in very short supply.

Ghost Robotics strapped a sniper rifle to its robot dog

The US military may be getting a dog-like quadruped robot armed with a sniper rifle.

The robot, developed by Ghost Robotics of Philadelphia, is a new version of its Vision series of legged robots. The US Air Force is currently testing an unarmed version of these robots for use as perimeter security at the Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida.

Ghost Robotics displayed the armed version at the annual meeting of the Association of the United States Army held in Washington DC this week. The robot is fitted with a Special Purpose Unmanned Rifle pod from Sword Defense, with a powerful 6.5mm sniper rifle. This has day and night cameras and an effective range of 1200 metres.
