In a 1997 study published by Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the psychologist Dr. Arthur Aron guided pairs of strangers in tasks specifically designed to generate closeness. Part of the experiment involved answering a series of 36 questions and then staring into your designated partner’s eyes for four straight minutes. Dr. Aron’s methodology famously resulted in an official marriage. According to his findings, reciprocal self-disclosure plays a critical part in relationship building, perhaps more so than common interests, expectations, or pheromones.

They think technology adds needless complexity to life, which prevents them from connecting with each other, as well as with God.

Homeless man builds wooden house ‘on wheels’ on Hollywood Boulevard
On Wednesday, FOX 11 spoke with “Q,” the man who built the home. FOX 11 asked for an inside tour but Q politely declined, saying he didn’t have a chance to clean up.
Q explained he previously lived in a tent but grew frustrated with the city’s crews asking him to clear the area and take down the tent every two weeks.
“I had an idea to build something on wheels so that we wouldn’t have to,” Q said.
Striving To Be A Better Human
This past year I’ve had a big “aha!” moment.. Not even sure that’s what I want to call it, but something hit me. Almost like I had an epiphany (not in the religious sense).
I also want to add in: I’ve had many struggles in life which have certainly helped shape me. Both through doing stupid things and being subject to too many negative situations, some out of my control (more along the lines of my childhood). These were still beneficial, but they took a long time to realize.

Often, being liked doesn’t require you to be interesting/funny. It just requires you to make other people feel interesting/funny
In most interactions, everybody is heavily self-monitoring and will base their judgement of the success of the interaction on how people responded to them. If people laughed at their joke. If people found their anecdote interesting or shocking. If people agreed with their opinion.
So the upshot for people who are shy or worry that they’re boring is: you don’t need to put so much pressure on yourself. Honestly most times all you need to do is take an interest in whoever you’re talking to. Listen. Ask questions/follow-up questions. Laugh at their jokes. And they’ll come out of it thinking you were a really cool person to talk to, when actually what they mean is you made them feel like a really cool person to talk to.
