Ridley’s Scott’s Alien test screening audience reacts to the chest burster, 1979

When an early test screening convened in Dallas, Texas (the second one after the sound didn’t work at the initial screening in St. Louis), Ridley Scott was so nervous, that he couldn’t even stay in the theater. More than that, he had to get a little sloshed. 

“I kept having to talk around the block,” he told Empire Magazine for its definitive history of the Alien franchise, adding that he would grab an alcoholic beverage at a local watering hole. He’d return to the theater and ask, “Where are they now?” before leaving again.

“I met this girl in January of this year at the start of the second semester at our university when we worked in one of the rec centers together. She was a freshman and I was a Junior. She started college a semester late (she said because of family issues) and said she was nervous about it, so I decided to show her around a bit. We got lunch a few times during the first month on campus and I gave her tours of the campus.

What is the Car Extended Warranty Scam Call About?

When you buy a new-ish car, it will generally have a factory warranty. This means for a period of time and/or mileage- say, 5 years/100,000 miles- the dealer will handle otherwise expensive repairs.

When the warranty expires, the owner is completely financially responsible for repairs going forward. That can be a frightening prospect for many people, especially the elderly or poor.

For those that aren’t familiar, these are referred to as APFSDS shells (armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot). The working bit is an extremely long, extremely thin, extremely dense fin stabilized “dart” (the bright silver thing running up the middle), which is why they are also sometimes referred to as LRPs (long rod penetrators).

This is held centered in the barrel by a multi-piece “sabot” (the darker grey bit) that separates from the dart when it leaves the gun.

The sabot is made of relatively light material, but increases the surface area that the chamber pressure can work on, which means that the dart exits the barrel much much faster than it would with a smaller diameter barrel.

So my son was being bullied pretty badly at school. People would make fun of his accent, use racial slurs towards him, throw open milk cartons at him at lunch, start rumors about him, they put his book bag in the toilet once, and a bunch of fucked shit kids do to each other.

My son had told on the main perpetrator to me and his mother and I went to the school and told them about my concerns and the school gave him a stern talking to which only stopped him for a few weeks and then he continued to bully my son.
