Local Deli Provides Accommodations For Disabled Employee

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.

And when one of your best employees comes to you and says that in spite of all obstacles, they want to be a cook…you find a way to make it happen.

You move a couple pieces of equipment around so she can reach. You take some wood, screws and the skills of a local craftsman ( her grandfather ) to make her a perch.

And you step back to watch her live out a dream. Angelina’s Reubens. Nothing any better.

This is who we are.

This is what we do.

This man held his arm up one day and decided to never put it down, it’s been 45+ years

Amar Bharati claims to have kept his hand raised in devotion to Hindu deity Shiva.

One day in 1970, Bharati left his job, wife, and three children in order to pursue his devotion to Shiva; three years later he felt he was still too connected to the luxury of mortal life, and decided to raise his arm and keep it raised in order to disconnect himself from said luxuries of mortal life.

He claims that he dealt with immense pain for quite a while, but it eventually subsided and now he can’t even use the raised arm if he wanted, as it atrophied and is now stuck in its current raised position.

Bharati inspired other sadhus to raise their arms as well, some of which have managed to keep them raised for 7, 13, or even 25 years.

tate myre

Tate Myre, a 16-year-old football player at Michigan’s Oxford High School, sacrificed his life Tuesday to save his classmates from the deadly shooting that has claimed at least three other lives.

Ross Wingert, who was Tate’s football and wrestling coach, told the Detroit Free Press that the junior ran towards the gunman to try and disarm him.

“I was told that everybody in that school was running one way, and Tate was running the other way.”

Myre’s classmates have started a Change.org petition in which they are calling for Wildcats Stadium to be renamed in his honor. The petition had over 125,000 signatures as of Thursday morning.

“Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford high school but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations, he put his life in danger to try and help the thousands of other students at Oxford High School,” reads the description on the Change.org petition.

alice lee roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt’s high-spirited daughter Alice. Her father said of her “I can either run the country or I can attend to Alice, but I cannot possibly do both.” In 15 months she attended 407 dinners, 350 balls and 300 parties

Her mother died when she was born. Roosevelt later remarried and Alice was raised partially by an aunt because she never got along with her stepmother, who liked to claim that if she’d lived, Teddy’s first wife would have ‘bored him to death’.

They once got mad at her for her fierce independence (ironically inherited from her father), and they threatened to send her to some strict girls boarding school as punishment. She responded in a letter, writing “If you send me I will humiliate you. I will do something that will shame you. I tell you I will.”

Isaac W. Sprague was an entertainer and sideshow performer, billed as the living human skeleton

At age 12, after developing normally as a child, Isaac Sprague of Massachusetts began irreversibly losing weight for reasons that remain unclear to this day. Though he was otherwise healthy and maintained a normal appetite, his weight dropped until he was skeletal — and it never rebounded.

As an adult measuring 5’6″, he weighed just 43 pounds. Though this didn’t prevent him from marrying and having three healthy children, it did limit his career prospects.

For almost all of his life, he worked as a sideshow attraction for P.T. Barnum and was billed as the “Living Human Skeleton.” However, his popularity eventually waned and he died alone and in poverty at age 45 in 1887.
