Hunter S. Thompson and Oscar Zeta Acosta at Caesar’s Palace, 1971

“We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers… and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.
Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.”
― Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

On March 27, 2021, 56 y.o. Budimir Šobat (Croatia) broke the record for the longest time breath held voluntarily (male) with a staggering time of 24 minutes 37.36 seconds.

How the heck do people hold their breath for that long?

First you need to know that there are multiple different records for breath holding. The record that is at 24 minutes is one where you are allowed to breath pure oxygen for a certain of amount time prior to your attempt. This greatly increases the amount of oxygen in your blood. However the record where they use normal air is still at around 13 minutes.

kevin nash and scott hall

Kevin Nash pays a tribute to Scott Hall, who is currently on life support.

Scott’s on life support. Once his family is in place they will discontinue life support. I’m going to lose the one person on this planet I’ve spent more of my life with than anyone else. My heart is broken and I’m so very fucking sad. I love Scott with all my heart but now I have to prepare my life without him in the present. I’ve been blessed to have a friend that took me at face value and I him. When we jumped to WCW we didn’t care who liked or hated us. We had each other and with the smooth Barry Bloom we changed wrestling both in content and pay for those……alot that disliked us. We were the “Outsiders ” but we had each other. Scott always felt he wasn’t worthy of the afterlife. Well God please have some gold plated toothpicks for my brother. My life was enriched with his take on life. He wasn’t perfect but as he always said “The last perfect person to walk the planet they nailed to a cross ” As we prepare for life without him just remember there goes a great guy you ain’t going to see another one like him again. See Ya down the road Scott. I couldn’t love a human being any more than I do you

Ejnar Mikkelsen

After they were abandoned by the rest of their expedition in 1910, Ejnar Mikkelsen and one inexperienced crew mate were forced to spend 28 months alone in the Arctic wilds of Greenland.

On June 20, 1909, Danish explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen set out for Greenland with a crew of six men. Their mission was to recover the diaries and maps from a ship that had gone missing two years earlier. By August, they had reached their destination, about 200 miles south of the last-known location of two of the expedition’s crew members. Over the next four months, they traversed over ice floes and deep snow to find some trace of them before returning to their ship for the winter in late December.

A Dutch cyclist, Maarten de Jonge, had tickets for the MH370 flight which disappeared in 2014 but did not board the plane before take-off and later that year he had tickets for the MH17 flight that was shot down in Ukraine but changed his flights before boarding in order to save money.

De Jonge said he had been due to travel on flight MH17, the Boeing 777 that was shot down over Ukraine on Thursday killing all of the almost 300 passengers on board.

The cyclist said that he only decided to swap flights at the last minute, after discovering that travelling via Frankfurt today would prove cheaper.

Tweeting a link on Thursday to a Dutch article about the MH17 disaster, De Jonge said: “Had I departed today, then…”
