The Key to Habit Mastery

May 20, 2022

habit mastery

Humans are innately wired to take the path of least resistance, and it seems most things in the universe have this bias.

Water and electricity flow through the path of least resistance.

An object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force.

A person binging Netflix will stay lying on their ass unless acted on by an outside force.

If we look from an evolutionary context, our bias to be lazy has good intentions.

Primal man did not have UberEATS or Dominos Pizza delivery on standby – Every day was a bitter struggle for survival.

Stop Waiting. Start Doing.

April 11, 2022

Stop waiting. Start doing.

Stop waiting. Start doing. It’s all too easy to tell ourselves that once we lose twenty pounds, we’ll be happy, or once we have more free time, we’ll start reading more, or once we’re on that new project at work and have shorter hours, we’ll start going back to the gym. We think we’re too busy now to do that thing we want to do, or we’ll be happy once we’ve done that thing, but we haven’t even started working on it.

7 Real Ways Social Media Can Ruin Your Life

March 8, 2022

social media ruins you life

It is such an integral part of the daily grind that we hardly notice it anymore but the verdict is in – social media can ruin your life.

If you are like most people you will have already checked Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter etc. multiple times today, perhaps spending up to 9 hours a day doing so if research is to be believed. We use it as a distraction and release from work, to catch up with friends, and to see what other people are up to. Relaxing, right?

Well, apparently no.

Re-frame Your Mindset From Past-Focused to Future/Present-Focused

January 26, 2022

I feel like too many times we look back with regret at what we HAVEN’T done in the past.

And that does you little good.

Past-focused mindset

“If I had only started playing guitar 2 years ago when my friend did, I would have been so good by now.”

“If I had only stuck to my diet 6 months back I’d be in such great shape today.”

“If I had only spent the last year being productive instead of spending most of my time distracting myself with games/TV, I would be so much more successful.”

Things I Wish I Knew 8 Years Ago About Lifting Weights

December 13, 2021

There have been many times where I was dead-set on being right about things, only to later find out I was wrong.

That’s the beauty of exercise and strength training: continuing to learn and grow. You should never be complacent with what you know. Buy books, read articles, ask around your gym. You can only benefit from this. You can add to what you already have in your arsenal and become a complete package. Here are some things I wish I knew when I started 8 years ago. (Disclaimer: this is mainly directed at beginners, but some of these things may be new to you even if you’ve been lifting for some time)

Displace Digital From Its Central Role In Your Life

November 24, 2021

The programming: Look at your phone. Look at your TV. Look at your computer. Answer this message. Respond to this prompt. Look here. Look here. Look here.

In the attention economy, your time and headspace are more valuable than ever — which has spawned a massive ecosystem of profit-driven companies who compete for it. Unguarded, you’ll find yourself doing their bidding — clicking, tapping and swiping as life goes by.

Being Overstimulated Is The Cause Of The Lack Of Discipline

August 17, 2021

It sounds simple, but when I’ve realized it – it helped me a lot. I’ll try to share it.

The root problem with many productivity issues is being constantly overstimulated.

People often tell “I was doing nothing the entire day instead of working” while the truth is that you were not doing nothing. You were stimulating your brain all the time using social media or something else.

Start Small

July 29, 2021

start small

I’ve noticed on the internet that people literally want to change their lives overnight. That’s not the way things work.

It’s like being able to bench 100lbs and expecting to bench 1000lbs the next day. It takes time.

Don’t have an all or nothing mentality.

A few years ago I started meditating. I told myself, “I’m going to meditate 30 minutes a day!”

For the next six months I’d only hit my goal maybe 5 times a month, and I’d keep beating myself up.

The Daily Man-Up

February 23, 2021

Nothing will work until YOU do the work. Stop looking for another system and JUST DO IT.

Stop looking for the next tip, trick, big idea, etc. that will change your life. It will fail just like all the other tips, tricks, big ideas you’ve read on the Internet and tried for like 5 seconds. Because YOU don’t do anything consistently enough to see any results. YOU are the problem.

The Daily Man-Up: Pain Is Your Ally

February 10, 2021

(photo: @aloragriffiths)

“It is a fundamental law of nature that to evolve one has to push one’s limits, which is painful, in order to gain strength. Nature gives us pain as a messaging device to tell us that we are approaching, or that we have exceeded, our limits in some way. At the same time, nature made the process of getting stronger require us to push our limits. Gaining strength is the adaptation process of the body and the mind to encountering one’s limits, which is painful. In other words, both pain and strength typically result from encountering one’s barriers. When we encounter pain, we are at an important juncture in our decision-making process.”
