Life Isn’t Supposed To Be Easy

September 5, 2023

life isn't easy

Understand that life isn’t supposed to be easy…and it would be boring if it were. There’s a quote painted on the wall of my gym “nothing worth achieving was ever achieved without effort.” I used to roll my eyes, but now I realize how incredibly accurate it is.

A Massively Overlooked Reason For Failure And Lack Of Achievement

September 1, 2023

(photo: @kylo8)

When I think of all the things that are responsible for lack of achievement and abject failure, I can point the finger at a lot of things.

Inability to manage time. Inability to plan. Not having the right set of skills. A ton of things.

But there’s something a lot of people don’t consider. And that is the sheer amount of enjoyment and novelty available at our fingertips. I don’t even mean from a distraction sense (though it very well could be), I mean from a perspective of absolute satiation.

Instead Of Saying “I Need To Do This”, Say “I Want To Do This”

August 31, 2023

When you wake up in the morning and see your room a mess do you typically look at your room and go “Ugh, Fuck i need to fix my room” You groan a bit then lazily clean your room just enough to look decent.

The reality however is that you want to clean your room. If you didn’t truly desire self improvement then you wouldn’t bother with things like this, as you technically don’t need to. So you want to clean your room but you don’t say it to yourself.

Next time try this. Wake up and say “I want to clean my room” “I want to get out of bed” “I want to do my work”.

It’s ALL About Taking Responsibility

August 28, 2023

One of the biggest differences between me now and me 3 years ago is simple: I’ve taken responsibility for my life.

Now what I mean when I say taking responsibility, is accepting and taking ownership of my life.

I am responsible for my life, and everything that affects me is my responsibility to deal with.

The Sun Will Come Up….

August 25, 2023

jocko willink sunset

“Say goodnight to the sun, gents. It’s gonna be a long, wet, cold, nasty night.” Our instructors in SEAL training would tell us that as the sun went down.
They were right.
They told us that to make us quit.
But, if you stayed—if you didn’t quit—in the morning, you would see the sun come up again.
And that was the lesson the instructors were teaching.
But you had to learn it on your own. And you would always remember:
That there will be long, cold, wet, nasty nights.
But the sun will come up.
And everything will be okay.
That is life, too.
And it’s dark right now.
But hang in there.
The sun will come up…

As Long As You Approach Her, It’s A Success

August 24, 2023

So many guys judge success as “did I have sex with her” or “did I get her phone number” or “did I get her laughing”, etc. However, I judge success differently. It is a very binary way of measuring success, and it is also incredibly powerful. I judge success like this: “Did I approach her or not?”

Seeking a Purposeful Life? Begin with Writing Your Eulogy

August 22, 2023

terminal illness

Every January, many of us reflect on how to make the upcoming year surpass the previous one. Given the global challenges of the past two years, this introspection feels even more pertinent.

However, the term “better” is subjective. For some, it might mean increased productivity, while for others, it’s about decluttering life to focus on genuine passions. Donald Miller, a renowned author, believes that most are in search of a deeper purpose.

In his recent book, “Hero on a Mission,” Miller posits an intriguing approach: begin by penning your eulogy. While it might seem grim initially, it’s akin to setting a goal and tracing steps backward. This strategy, effective in business or projects, can also be applied to life planning. By visualizing the desired end, one can lead a life with purpose.

Don’t Take Anything Personally

August 21, 2023

dont take anything personally

Whatever happens around you, don’t take it personally. Using an earlier example, if I see you on the street and I say, "Hey, you are so stupid," without knowing you, it’s not about you; it’s about me. If you take it personally, then perhaps you believe you are stupid. Maybe you think to yourself, "How does he know? Is he clairvoyant, or can everybody see how stupid I am?"

Confessions of a 57-Year-Old Virgin

August 16, 2023

I’m a 57 year old man, about three years away from whatever the grandmaster of all the wizards are. I’ve never hugged a woman before (beside female relatives), never dated anyone before, no one at all. And then obviously that means that I never had my first kiss and I’m still a virgin.
