Why Many Advise Against Buying a Franchise

October 5, 2023

  1. You’re Buying a Job: The sentiment echoed by many is that owning a franchise is akin to “buying a job.” Instead of the passive income many hope for, franchisees often find themselves working long hours, dealing with the day-to-day operations, and facing the challenges of managing staff and customer relations.

Wojtek the Bear, adopted by the 22nd Transport Company’s Artillery Division in the Polish II Corps in 1942, after an Iranian boy traded the bear for food. He served alongside his human comrades during the Italian Campaign

Wojtek, often referred to as the “Soldier Bear,” was a Syrian brown bear that played a unique and heartwarming role during World War II. Found as a young cub in Iran in 1942 after it was believed his mother had been shot by hunters, Wojtek was adopted by Polish soldiers of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps. As he grew under the care of the soldiers, he became more than just a mascot; he became one of them.

What Is Emotional Invalidation?

October 5, 2023

Emotional invalidation is the process of dismissing, belittling, or negating someone’s feelings. It can be intentional or unintentional, but regardless of the intent, it can have profound effects on the individual on the receiving end.

When someone expresses their feelings or emotions, they are sharing a vulnerable part of themselves. They are seeking understanding, empathy, and validation. Emotional invalidation, however, is the opposite of this. It’s like telling someone that their feelings are wrong, unimportant, or that they shouldn’t feel the way they do. This can be done through comments like “You’re overreacting,” “It’s not a big deal,” or “You shouldn’t feel that way.”

The reason emotional invalidation is harmful is multifaceted:

On September 6, 1992, the decomposed body of Christopher McCandless was discovered by moose hunters just outside the northern boundary of Denali National Park. He had died inside a rusting bus that served as a makeshift shelter for trappers, dog mushers, and other backcountry visitors.

Taped to the door was an S.O.S. note scrawled on a page torn from a novel by Nikolai Gogol. From a cryptic diary found among his possessions, it appeared that McCandless had been dead for nineteen days.

Mastering Your Narrative: The Power Within

October 4, 2023

Let’s address the elephant in the room.

Perhaps you grew up in less than ideal circumstances, faced prejudice due to your race, gender, or sexuality, battled health issues, or constantly felt out of place because of your accent or location.

You feel that the universe dealt you a unique hand, making it impossible for your setbacks to be your own doing. Yet, deep within, there’s a nagging feeling that we are often our own biggest obstacle.

Why? Because acknowledging this means we have the power to rewrite our story. If we don’t, the blame squarely falls on our shoulders. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, realizing that we might be the only thing standing in the way of our dreams and aspirations.

Pointing fingers elsewhere is just so much simpler.

But hear me out. I’m not saying you lack ambition or drive. Taking the reins of your life is no small feat. It’s a journey filled with discomfort and moments of self-doubt.

Our instinct is to shield ourselves from pain, often leading us to find external culprits for our woes. Yet, breaking free from this mindset is possible.

In essence, life is about owning your narrative. And when you do, you’ll find that the most compelling chapters are yet to be written.

Life is unpredictable. While you may not have control over every event that unfolds, you have the undeniable power to choose your response. You’re the captain of your emotional ship.

External events might sway and rock your boat, but you decide whether to sail through or let the waves capsize you.

Every reaction, whether instinctive or deliberate, is a testament to your resilience and adaptability.

Embracing this control means understanding that while you can’t always dictate the winds, you can adjust your sails.
