Dummy head used by John Anglin to fool prison guards during his escape from Alcatraz Prison. Him and his 2 companions whereabouts are still unknown. The head was made of cloth, soap, toothpaste, concrete-dust and human hair.

On June 11, 1962, three Alcatraz inmates used dummy heads to pull off perhaps the most daring prison break in recorded history. That night, brothers Clarence and John Anglin and their friend Frank Morris managed to make it off “The Rock” — but whether they made it safely to shore remains a mystery to this day.⁠

what is financial independence like

I am in my 40’s, live in a large US city. Never married, no kids.

I stopped working about 5 years ago. The experience has been largely good, but mixed.

The good:

—If, 15 years ago, someone had asked me to design the ideal life, I would have described the life I am now living. I spend my time indulging in my passions and other healthy pursuits, I have traveled the world extensively, I have done most of the things that I always wanted to do and I am continually thinking up new ideas.

I don’t buy junk food to bring home. I don’t do junk food. The idea of buying it repulses me, even though I’d get pleasure from eating it. Why? I thought about it, long and hard. About the kind of life I’d have if I continued to eat it, and I decided the person who eats junk food, that version of myself, that’s not me. That’s not who I want to be.
