Never Give Out Personal or Financial Information On a Call You Did Not Initiate

April 2, 2024

never give out personal information on phone call

It happens often, and it seems like common sense. But, how often have you been called by your loan company, or your phone company, or your insurance company, or internet company, and that call has started with something like:

“Hello, this is Sandra from Comcast calling about your account. Before going any further, for your security, please verify the last four digits of your social security number.”

BEWARE: The Sextortion Scam

May 3, 2023

sextortion scam

Just got this message on Whatsapp yesterday….

You really love visiting porn websites and watching exciting videos, while enduring an enormous amount of pleasure. Well, I have managed to record a number of your dirty scenes and montaged a few videos, which show the way you masturbate and reach orgasms. If you have doubts, I can make a few clicks of my mouse and all your videos will be shared to your friends, colleagues and relatives. I have also no issue at all to make them available for public access. I guess, you really don’t want that to happen, considering the specificity of the videos you like to watch, (you perfectly know what I mean) it will cause a true catastrophe for you. Let’s settle it this way: You transfer $1500 USD to me (in bitcoin equivalent according to the exchange rate at the moment of funds transfer), and once the transfer is received, I will delete all this dirty stuff right away. After that we will forget about each other. I also promise to deactivate and delete all the harmful software from your devices. Trust me, I keep my word. This is a fair deal and the price is quite low, considering that I have been checking out your profile and traffic for some time by now. In case, if you don’t know how to purchase and transfer the bitcoins – you can use any modern search engine. Here is my bitcoin wallet: 1GGZpqXsqKWSRnjJ1SHFaE5VPkMHHsKToX You have less than 48 hours from the moment you opened this email (precisely 2 days)

BEWARE of the Cartel Text Scam

March 10, 2023

This afternoon I was contacted by a mysterious number saying they were with the Cartel and I needed to pay them money or they would kill me and my family.

They then sent me dozens of horrible, bloody, pictures of dead bodies. Not the movie kind. The Cartel kind.

After the barrage of pictures they then sent my parents address which included their names and the names of my sisters threatening to kill them unless I responded.

Please, please be aware this IS A SCAM and you are not in danger.

New Scam To Watch Out For

December 30, 2022

So I wanted to write about a scam I *almost* fell for recently. I haven’t seen anything else out there about it. I don’t consider myself gullible and these people were prepared for savvy folks.

What is the Car Extended Warranty Scam Call About?

December 28, 2022

When you buy a new-ish car, it will generally have a factory warranty. This means for a period of time and/or mileage- say, 5 years/100,000 miles- the dealer will handle otherwise expensive repairs.

When the warranty expires, the owner is completely financially responsible for repairs going forward. That can be a frightening prospect for many people, especially the elderly or poor.

What’s It Like To Attend A Timeshare Presentation

August 3, 2022

what is a timeshare presentation like

This is what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a Wyndham timeshare sales pitch. Here goes:

I vaguely knew what I was getting in to. My girlfriend and I arrived at an MGM owned casino. We get a bite to eat and as soon as we began our exploration of the Casino someone approached us offering vouchers for free play in the casino worth $75. I’m usually hesitant to ever get sucked into something like this but my girlfriend insisted that we do it. “They give it to you for showing up, we’ll just say no, I’ve got friends who did this too, etc.” I went along and decided to keep an open mind about it.

Beware of the Pig Butchering Scam

June 3, 2022

I would like to do a PSA for people unaware of this crypto-romance scam that made me a victim on 5/20. I am humiliated, embarrassed, ashamed, and betrayed both financially and more importantly, emotionally.

I write this now as it is still fresh in my mind so that others don’t experience what I just went through. Overall I’ve lost $50k USD and there is information on YouTube, the news, and Google if you search up Pig Butchering Scam but I was unaware of this beforehand.

Attention Home Buyers: Beware of the Mortgage Closing Scam

November 19, 2021

My wife and I are in the final stretch of an arduous closing process on a co-op. As is the case with many co-op purchases, small local lenders, local real estate agents and small legal firms are involved on both sides of the deal. Needless to say, with the small players involved, security protocol is lax at best – learned that the hard way.

This process has been very tiresome and emotionally draining with many email chains being passed containing my attorney, seller’s attorney, my lender and the attorney for my lender, over the course of 6 months.

Picture of the Day

March 3, 2021

cancer fund of america

The Federal Trade Commission says four cancer charities run by extended members of the same family conned donors out of $187 million and spent almost nothing to help actual cancer patients.

The Cancer Fund of America is run by James Reynolds Sr. His son James Reynolds Jr. is the CEO of the Breast Cancer Society. Another charity, the Children’s Cancer Fund of America, is run by Rose Perkins, the ex-wife of the elder James Reynolds. He’s also the CEO of the fourth charity, Cancer Support Services.

The government says the charities claimed to provide direct support for cancer patients, breast cancer patients and children with cancer.
