October 24, 2023

police interrogation

Law enforcement can tell when suspects are lying, usually beginning with an initial 911 call or first interview.

“The 911 call and initial statements are among the most important pieces of evidence should a case go to trial,” said Stacy Dittrich, a former Ohio police detective, crime expert and author. “The entire case can build from those few sentences.”

Here are the most tell-tale signs, revealed.

How Should I Respond When a Cop Asks Me If They Can Search My Vehicle?

June 26, 2023

how to respond when cop wants to search car

I was a police officer for twenty-five years and made hundreds of car stops and completed quite a few searches, so listen to this retired patrol commander:

In the simplest of terms, if a police officer asks your permission to do something, they are not allowed to do this thing without your permission or consent.

Just say the words, I do not consent to a search without a warrant.

What’s It Like To Be A Police Detective

April 25, 2023

I worked in a Police Department for 4 years, first as an intern and then as the assistant to the Chief of Police. Many of my friends are detectives. I will try to provide you with information on it.

  • A detective is a lateral promotion of a police officer. It is the same rank, just a different function of the organization. Thus, you need to be a police/patrol officer first. The amount of time spent on patrol varies widely with departments, but I would say you should anticipate on spending at least 5 years as a patrol officer. During that time you will be provided multiple opportunities to increase your skill set and get training for a lateral promotion to a detective. To emphasize this point, there are Patrol Sergeants (a real promotion) and Detective Sergeants (a leader of detectives). I hope this makes sense.

How Do Police Sketch Artists Accurately Depict Perpetrators?

September 14, 2022

police sketch artist

When I was a victim of an armed robbery, I was eager to get this violent criminal off the streets. Unfortunately, the Bay Area city in which this occurred did not employ a composite sketch artist, and my case was not considered high-profile enough to warrant the investigator traveling an hour to another city with me to do the drawing. This was not satisfactory. I began working with a private investigator to help find the attacker and put him behind bars where he belongs.

Picture of the Day

June 22, 2022

uvalde cops

The first images emerged showing armed police with rifles and ballistic shields waiting in a school corridor inside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde at 12:04 p.m. May 24. Authorities stormed the classroom at 12:50 p.m.

By noon, officers had rifles, a Halligan and at least one ballistic shield — yet made no attempt to enter the classrooms for 50 minutes.

Police waited for a master key to arrive so that the classroom doors could be opened, even though it had not been established that the doors were locked, while tools were also available that could have been used to break them down, the Texas Tribune reported.

Why Are No-Knock Warrants Legal?

February 7, 2022

no knock warrant

A happy crowd is a silent crowd.

That meaning, you don’t hear about the times that it goes right and everything is fine. And all that gets recorded and shared is the stuff that goes wrong.

The Thoughts And Feelings Of A Police Officer Who Just Shot Someone To Death

November 30, 2021

I was involved in my first on duty shooting incident. And I killed someone. It is considered a justified shooting, but never the less its been keeping me up at night. And I thought maybe sharing it will help me process what happened.

I was watching a red light that’s known to produce some speeders and considered a dangerous intersection.

When I witnessed a car run the red light at a high rate of speed. I began pursuit, thinking it was a normal traffic stop. The car pulled over shortly after I began the pursuit.

How Drug Dealers Get Caught, As Told By A Police Officer

September 27, 2021

Disclaimer: We do not endore the selling or buying of drugs. This is strictly for entertainment purposes only

I am a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) for a medium sized city (I will not provide proof, sorry everyone), we have about 80K in population. The city is a college city so half of the population is young, experimental, and stupid. Then we have the 3-4 per-centers who make a comfortable wage, have a college degree, and enjoy their life. Then we have the rest of the population who are criminals, minimum wage adults supporting families, and homeless people.

The cities average income is 19K a year and we have the most meth labs per square mile than any other place in the USA.
