April 27, 2023

Neve 8028

MELISSA BLOCK: Let’s talk about that board. It’s a Neve 8028 soundboard and that was the studio console at Sound City. What was so great about it?

DAVE GROHL: Well, you know, that was a great era for recording equipment. The late ’60s and the ’70s, a lot of this really beautiful equipment was being made and installed into studios around the world and the Neve boards were considered like the Cadillacs of recording consoles.

What Is The Greatest Diss Track Of All Time?

July 1, 2022

After Ice Cube left N.W.A over a financial dispute, his former group attacked him on their 100 Miles & Runnin and Efil4zaggin albums, likening Cube to American history’s most infamous traitor, Benedict Arnold. Cube responded with the extremely graphic “No Vaseline,” an exposé on Eazy E and Jerry Heller’s (N.W.A’s manager) shady business tactics, littered with gay and racial slurs.

Is It True That No Member of The Sex Pistols Could Play Their Instruments?

May 20, 2022

sex pistols cant play instruments

No it isn’t.

Sid Vicious was just as incompetent as you’ve heard, unable to tune or play his bass, but he wasn’t chosen for the band for his musicianship.

The Pistols’ manager Malcolm McLaren fancied that he was making some sort of artistic statement through the look and style of the band as well as through their music, and he thought Sid represented the sort of nihilistic, destructive force he wanted punk to be. Baroque pop artist Niagara Moon has just unleashed his latest track “Bad Vibes” and video. The  song is a parody on paranoia and a satire on superstition, with how fear can lead to believing misinformation. His music is reminiscent of Beach Boys meets Thom Yorke with a Willy Wonka lens.

Picture of the Day

The Grateful Dead’s “Wall of Sound” was a massive sound system designed by LSD chemist, Owsley Stanley. Jr.

The Wall of Sound fulfilled Owsley’s desire for a distortion-free sound system that could also serve as its own monitoring system.

After Stanley got out of prison in late 1972, he, Dan Healy and Mark Raizene of the Grateful Dead’s sound crew, in collaboration with Ron Wickersham, Rick Turner, and John Curl of Alembic, combined six independent sound systems using eleven separate channels, in an effort to deliver high-quality sound to audiences.

Vocals, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and piano each had their own channel and set of speakers.
