All 7 quit their jobs by 1996.

  • William Campbell, CEO of Phillip Morris went on to have leadership positions with Citigroup, Visa International, then JPMorgan Chase. He currently serves as President of Sanoch Management, “a consulting and investment vehicle for financial companies, start-ups, and venture capital firms.”

  • James Johnston, chairman of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Now works as chairman of the board for Snyder’s-Lance.

  • Joseph Taddeo, President of US Tobacco, is now a chairman for Jupiter Medical Center.

  • Andrew Tisch, CEO of Lorillard Tobacco Company, became co-chair of its parent company Loews Corporation, after the death of his father. It is a holding company involved in hotels, oil, and insurance.

  • Edward Horrigan Jr., CEO of Liggett Group Inc. retired. He died last year at 91.

  • Thomas Sandefur Jr., CEO of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. Retired in 1995, then died in 1996 in the hospital at 56. He had aplastic anemia.

  • Donald Johnston, CEO of American Tobacco Company. Left the company before it was bought out by British American Tobacco plc. at the end of 1994, but I can’t find what he did after that.

I’m 30 and started smoking when i was 12. By the time i was 15 I was a full fledged pack a day smoker. Over the years I have witnessed many people fall prey to the habit.

You start by smoking here and there, maybe you don’t inhale at first, maybe you just like to blow it out your nose or smoke it like a cigar. It’s only on certain occasions.

If you are fiddling with cigarettes, you likely have friends that are smoking, also. so you are hanging out, maybe having a few beers, and you see them smoking and decide to be social with them, and also have a cig, but alas, you have none. So you bum a few off a friend for the night. you kind of like it. it just feels good to have one with some drinks or just when you’re talking and laughing. Soon you do this every time you get together for a drink/movie/whatever. It’s not a big deal, it’s just once in a blue moon.

This is how much food you can get for the cost of a pack of cigarettes in Australia.

Beginning in September, a 25-pack of Marlboro Golds will cost AUD48.50 ($34), one of the highest prices in the world for a pack of cigarettes. The cheapest pack will be about AUD29 ($20).

This will be the eighth consecutive price increase as a part of the government’s attempt to reduce tobacco use.
