A “Kaiten”, Japanese suicide torpedo. A soldier would enter and direct the weapon to its target, sacrificing his life.

Kaiten (回天, literal translation: “Turn the Heaven”, commonly rendered as “turn of the Heaven’s will”, “the heaven shaker”) were manned torpedoes and suicide craft, used by the Imperial Japanese Navy in the final stages of World War II.

Kaiten pilots were all men aged between 17 and 28. Initial training consisted of sailing fast surface boats by periscope and instrument readings alone.

Throwback: Church Mistakes Tupac Shakur’s ‘Hail Mary’ For Catholic Prayer

December 24, 2020

2pac catholic prayer

There was mass confusion at a Christmas service in Sri Lanka when the program featured the words to Tupac Shakur’s 1997 song, “Hail Mary,” instead of the traditional Catholic prayer, according to multiple reports.

The service took place on December 11 in Colombo, but pictures of the program went viral during the Christmas holiday.

Both the “Hail Mary” prayer and Tupac Shakur’s rap song ask Mother Mary to intercede on behalf of sinners, but they differ greatly on the specifics.

Why Do Teenagers Feel The Need To Act “Cool” Around Their Parents?

December 24, 2020

teenagers acting cool

Sincerity is vulnerable and teens already feel plenty vulnerable.

Also, if you drop the act around your parents, you are acknowledging that it’s an act. Some kids are okay with that because they’re aware of social masking and code switching, consciously or otherwise. Other kids, especially kids who might be struggling socially or are trying to “discover” themselves, would resist the idea that their more popular, more well-liked self is just an “act” and feel pressured to keep it up 24/7, because they assume all the other “cool” kids are naturally like that, too.

Daallo-Airlines-Flight-159

In 2016, a suicide bomber with explosives in his laptop boarded a Daallo Airlines flight, intending to destroy the aircraft. Twenty minutes after takeoff, the explosives detonated, blasting a hole in the plane, and instantly sucking the bomber out. He was the only fatality.

The explosive device was built into a laptop computer and blew a hole in the skin of the Daallo Airlines plane on February 2 but did not down the aircraft, because it detonated 20 minutes into the flight, before it reached cruising altitude. The suspected bomber was blown out of the plane, and his body was recovered on the ground near Mogadishu. The plane returned to the airport. Two people aboard were injured.

Advice from a Dying 24 Year-Old

Soon I will be gone forever, but that’s okay as long as someone reads this. I am only 24 years old, yet I have actually already chosen my last tie. It’s the one that I will wear on my funeral a few months from now. It may not match my suit, but I think it’s perfect for the occasion.

The cancer diagnosis came too late to give me at least a tenuous hope for a long life, but I realized that the most important thing about death is to ensure that you leave this world a little better than it was before you existed with your contributions . The way I’ve lived my life so far, my existence or more precisely the loss of it, will not matter because I have lived without doing anything impactful.
