Soldier survives 15,000 ft fall as parachute fails to open correctly. The soldier did not suffer any serious or life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred in the late afternoon of July 7 when residents of the neighborhood saw the parachutist falling toward their homes under a partially-open canopy. The paratrooper reportedly hit the tile roof of the home and fell right through. The home’s residents were out at the time, but he was quickly found by a neighbor who immediately called emergency services
The paratrooper was found conscious, though stunned, and while he complained of some pain, he had no visible injuries, according to a statement from the Atascadero Police Department. The city’s fire and emergency services personnel treated the parachutist and transported him to a nearby hospital.
The paratrooper was purportedly taking part in a High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) jump. Designed as an infiltration technique, a HALO jump typically involves a parachutist in full gear jumping out of an airplane at high altitudes and then opening their parachute once they’re closer to the ground.

How Would Japan Have Fared In A Fight, Had The US Landed On Mainland Japan And No Nukes Had Been Dropped Or Developed?

Japan would have lost, horribly.
And it would have been a blood bath for the invaders. I personally question how much of Japan or Japanese culture would have survived such an invasion.
If the US had landed in Kyushu as originally planned, they would have been fighting against about 1,000,000 well fortified troops; troops that were well dug in.
The Japanese would have been heavily bombed and heavily shelled for months, and it still would have been hell for the invaders and death for the defenders. Just like the battle of Okinawa, the Japanese would have lost inflicting horrible casualties.

Woman Holds Her Own Heart Following Successful Heart Transplant Surgery
Penny Smith, 35, received her heart transplant in September 2012. She had known for years that she might one day need one.
"I was 3 and a half when I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins T-cell lymphoma and I went into remission at age 6," she told the Daily News. "From there in 1994 I developed a heart problem, which my mom knew about. (The doctors) had told her when I went through chemo that I would have it."
Doctors monitored her condition closely over the years, but, Smith says, "I went downhill in 2007. I couldn’t breathe, I could barely walk.
