One Of The Most Unsettling Ways To Die…

 

EMT with the FDNY here. It happens all the time – especially in Manhattan. There’s your classic hit and splatter, which sounds like what happened here. Then there’s your “space case” which is where they get wedged in between the subway car and the platform. Usually it’s because they dropped something on the tracks, jumped down, and didn’t realize how high the platform actually is. So they try to get up on the platform, and they can’t, and the train winds up coming and depending on how big the space is will either cut them in half or wedge them between the car and platform. Then, you have your “screw driver” which is the same as the space case, except the top half of the body stays in the same direction, and the waist/legs twist around and around as the subway car pulls the body down the side of the platform. This is actually a scenario that is practiced jointly between EMS and Fire at the academy – they have a fake subway track at the FDNY Academy on Randall’s Island that they mimic this with.

I’m 30 and started smoking when i was 12. By the time i was 15 I was a full fledged pack a day smoker. Over the years I have witnessed many people fall prey to the habit.

You start by smoking here and there, maybe you don’t inhale at first, maybe you just like to blow it out your nose or smoke it like a cigar. It’s only on certain occasions.

If you are fiddling with cigarettes, you likely have friends that are smoking, also. so you are hanging out, maybe having a few beers, and you see them smoking and decide to be social with them, and also have a cig, but alas, you have none. So you bum a few off a friend for the night. you kind of like it. it just feels good to have one with some drinks or just when you’re talking and laughing. Soon you do this every time you get together for a drink/movie/whatever. It’s not a big deal, it’s just once in a blue moon.

Reading was reserved for officials, Priests, and Royals.

So, what. Happens when that land gets conquered and those officials, priests, and royals are no longer in charge?

Isaac W. Sprague was an entertainer and sideshow performer, billed as the living human skeleton

At age 12, after developing normally as a child, Isaac Sprague of Massachusetts began irreversibly losing weight for reasons that remain unclear to this day. Though he was otherwise healthy and maintained a normal appetite, his weight dropped until he was skeletal — and it never rebounded.

As an adult measuring 5’6″, he weighed just 43 pounds. Though this didn’t prevent him from marrying and having three healthy children, it did limit his career prospects.

For almost all of his life, he worked as a sideshow attraction for P.T. Barnum and was billed as the “Living Human Skeleton.” However, his popularity eventually waned and he died alone and in poverty at age 45 in 1887.

How To Determine If You Can Really Afford That Car

I keep seeing encountering people who are struggling with their budget but have some ridiculous car payment. Let’s have a little discussion for people who are looking to buy a car. Here’s some advice I’ll give. Your mileage may vary (oh yes I went there). This advice is in USD but works anywhere.

Don’t get stuck holding the bag on a car that depreciates faster than you pay it off. I’ve done the math at a bunch of different interest rates, and the bottom line is that 48 months is the magic number for loan terms. At 4 years or below, you’re typically safe. Maybe you can push the boundary at super low interest rates, but there are other reasons not to finance for too long, including risk of financing a used vehicle for longer than expected reliable service life.
