Things I Wish I Knew 8 Years Ago About Lifting Weights

December 13, 2021

There have been many times where I was dead-set on being right about things, only to later find out I was wrong.

That’s the beauty of exercise and strength training: continuing to learn and grow. You should never be complacent with what you know. Buy books, read articles, ask around your gym. You can only benefit from this. You can add to what you already have in your arsenal and become a complete package. Here are some things I wish I knew when I started 8 years ago. (Disclaimer: this is mainly directed at beginners, but some of these things may be new to you even if you’ve been lifting for some time)

What’s It Like To Chew On Coca Leaves?

December 10, 2021

So I’ve been to Peru many times, beautiful country, and each time I’ve used coca leaf, which is abundant, cheap, and used often here, but mostly in the form of tea, although I did put it in my mouth to “chew” it before but without the base needed to extract the alkaloids (one being cocaine, in tiny amounts).

Anyhow this time I did use both lime (comes with the bag of coca if you ask) and sodium bicarbonate to activate the alkaloids whilst holding the leafs in your mouth. I’ll outline my experiences below:

This man held his arm up one day and decided to never put it down, it’s been 45+ years

Amar Bharati claims to have kept his hand raised in devotion to Hindu deity Shiva.

One day in 1970, Bharati left his job, wife, and three children in order to pursue his devotion to Shiva; three years later he felt he was still too connected to the luxury of mortal life, and decided to raise his arm and keep it raised in order to disconnect himself from said luxuries of mortal life.

He claims that he dealt with immense pain for quite a while, but it eventually subsided and now he can’t even use the raised arm if he wanted, as it atrophied and is now stuck in its current raised position.

Bharati inspired other sadhus to raise their arms as well, some of which have managed to keep them raised for 7, 13, or even 25 years.

Paralyzed Dog Abandoned On Street With A Bag Of Diapers And A Broken Wheelchair Gets Happy Ending

December 9, 2021

paralyzed dog abandoned on street

Lunita was found dumped on the streets of Salta, Argentina, with nothing but a dilapidated wheelchair and a bag of diapers. She was paralyzed, so she was unable to move on her own and was forced to lay there until someone would save her.. Fortunately, a good samaritan saw her and called LUBA Salta, a rescue organization.

Once the rescuers came to the scene, they could see that Lunita was in need of urgent medical care, so she was quickly rushed to the nearest vet’s office where she was given the appropriate medical assistance.
