13 Of The Best Opening And Closing Monologues From The Twilight Zone

January 12, 2022

The Twilight Zone is one of the greatest tv shows of all time and most of its genius can be directly credited to Rod Serling. Not only did he write 92 of the 156 epsiodes, but he also provided the opening and closing narration, which acts as the perfect frame for each story, something that puts everything we see in the episode into perspective.

And even taken out of that context, some of the intros and outros have always stayed with me. Here are a few of monologues that just linger with you long after you read or hear them.

Man gets genetically-modified pig heart in world-first transplant

David Bennett, 57, is doing well three days after the experimental seven-hour procedure in Baltimore, doctors say.

The transplant was considered the last hope of saving Mr Bennett’s life, though it is not yet clear what his long-term chances of survival are.

"It was either die or do this transplant," Mr Bennett explained a day before the surgery. "I know it’s a shot in the dark, but it’s my last choice," he said.

Discipline Is One Of The Most Necessary Traits For Success

January 12, 2022

discipline

(photo: @joshuaearle)

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” as the great Jim Rohn would say. One of the greatest life lessons that my grandpa taught me from an early age was that there is a right time and place for everything. You need to be disciplined enough in life in order to stay sharp and understand the right balance of everything coming your way and everything you are taking on.

What was once considered to be a respected and admirable quality has taken the backseat in this generation that doesn’t really know how to say no to anything. What we have ultimately become are a people that have forgot how to sacrifice and work hard. We opt for the easy way out, the sexy, the here and now and that is because the discipline is gone and we’re only after what appeases and appeals to us in the moment.

Why Did Japan Think It Was Worthwhile To Attack The US at Pearl Harbor?

January 11, 2022

The Japanese leadership had come to the conclusion that they needed national self-sufficiency for their growing military aspirations.

They didn’t have the oil and other natural resources in their own territories to make this a reality.

They had two choices: Take it from Russia in the form of Siberian resources, or take it from Western colonies in SE Asia. The first required a lot more Army units than they had. So, they went with taking them from SE Asian colonies.

The Japanese understood that they could not win a prolonged war with America. Their solution was to destroy America’s offensive ability in the Pacific theater and remove Americas will to fight so that they would sue for peace.

Officers Pull Injured Pilot From Crashed Plane Moments Before Train Smashes Into It

January 10, 2022

pilot pulled from crashed plane

The pilot of a Cessna 172 is lucky to be alive after crashing his plane onto a railroad track in California. Authorities said the plane lost power shortly after takeoff. The pilot, who was not identified, was forced to attempt an emergency landing on Metrolink tracks in Los Angeles.

The pilot, who was the sole occupant in the aircraft, was left dazed and bloodied from the crash and was trapped in the cockpit as a train was barreling down the tracks. Officers with the Foothill Division of the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene and managed to pull the pilot from the plane seconds before a train crashed into the single-engine plane, completely obliterating it.
