What’s it Like to be a student at MIT?

January 5, 2023

The first thing I felt upon arriving at MIT was disbelief – disbelief that I had been admitted to the school that produced Nobel laureates and unicorn founders and made some of history’s most groundbreaking scientific discoveries.

MIT had tens of thousands of applicants to choose from to fill their incoming class, and they chose…me?

A mother whose daughter was having brain surgery, called the Mister Rogers Neighborhood studio to ask for a signed photo. After hearing about this, Mr Rogers flew to the hospital to see her.

“Mr. Rogers would call the hospital every day to check up on me,” said Beth. “When he found out I wasn’t improving, he decided to make a trip.”

Rogers’ only request was that the visit be between him and Beth. No press.

So, he flew from Pittsburgh to Baltimore. A friend picked him up from the airport and drove him to John Hopkins Hospital where he sat beside Beth in her comatose state.Beth’s family and nurses stood in the doorway watching as Rogers removed his puppets from his case.“He gave Beth her own private show,” said Kathy.

What did Japan do in the three days between the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

January 4, 2023

Hiroshima was attacked on the morning (Japanese time) of August 6th. The attack destroyed communication lines from the city so for awhile nothing was known about what happened to it.

By the evening the Japanese high command had gotten reports that it had been attacked by “a new weapon of unprecedented destructiveness.”

Leaflet Dropped on Japanese Cities Right Before Atomic Bomb Was Dropped

Through much of World War II, Allied bombers would sometimes drop leaflets warning of impending bombing of a city. The leaflets often told civilians to evacuate, and sometimes encouraged them to push their leaders to surrender.

In August 1945, leaflets were dropped on several Japanese cities (including, supposedly, Hiroshima and Nagasaki). The first round, known as the “LeMay leaflets,” were distributed before the bombing of Hiroshima.

These leaflets did not directly reference the atomic bomb, and it is unclear whether they were used to warn citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki specifically.

The second round features a picture of a mushroom cloud and a message about the Soviet invasion (which commenced on August 9).

The historical record is unclear, but it seems as though these leaflets did not make it to Nagasaki until after it, too, had been hit by an atomic bomb. Later leaflets informed the Japanese populace about their government’s surrender before the emperor’s official announcement.

You Gotta Go For The Kiss

January 4, 2023

(photo: @diegoarqi)

If you attempt it and it comes out awkward, whatever, screw it. you tried. if she likes you, she won’t care.

If you attempt it and comes out beautifully done, great awesome! you did it!

Regardless, if you’re feeling it, go for the kiss on the first or second date.

It will take you from being seen as a friend to now being seen as a romantic and sexual option.

And that’s ultimately the goal to being in a relationship right?

Confessions Of A Guy Who Died Twice And Came Back To Life

January 3, 2023

guy died and came back to life

How did you die the first time?

Well long story short, construction workers forgot to put warning signs on the freeway, I came on my bike at 90km/h in a turn and saw the obstruction. I had nowhere to turn so I hit the brakes and bam. Immediately after the accident my body shut down from the pain and physical damages on my body. No pulse, no breathing and no consciousness.

Second?

I was in agonizing pain after surgery so I received loads of pain killers. The pain, coupled with an immense amount of pain killers, caused my pulse to drop to around 10bpm and my respiratory system shut down.
