What’s It Like To Retire Early?

January 10, 2023

I semi-retired in my early 40s, meaning I can be more selective about the work I perform or not work at all. I can spend weeks working only 10 hours per week just keeping tabs on my investments, or I could work 40 to 50 hours per week as a consultant.

I have a net worth of $5M+, and it’s a lot of work just to maintain and grow it. I sometimes dream about cashing in my chips and living off of an annuity, dividends or rental income.

Why Do We Waste Our Life Working For Retirement?

January 10, 2023

why do we save for retirement

(photo: @vladsargu)

Imagine this:

You’re 25 years old. You have a great job making great money and you are making so much money, you buy yourself a car, a house, you take lavish vacations, buy lavish things — you have to have the best of everything. It’s an amazing life, right? Some of us get to have that while others don’t.

40 years later, you’re now 65 years old. You put nothing away for retirement at all.

The house you have is your greatest asset. It’s market value went up around $200,000.

The car(s) you bought — well, they’re antiques now. Some work, some don’t.

All those lavish things you bought? Over the years, it’s just stuff. Not that important.

Picture of the Day

The Greenland Shark has the longest lifespan of any vertebrate (up to 500 years), and doesn’t even reach sexual maturity until they are 150 years old

One theory to explain this long lifespan is that the Greenland shark has a very slow metabolism, an adaptation to the deep, cold waters it inhabits. A NOAA remotely operated vehicle doing a dive off New England encountered a Greenland shark at a depth of 783 meters, but these sharks are known to dive as deep as 2,200 meters. They’re also the only shark that can withstand the cold waters of the Arctic Ocean year-round.

It Is Not What Happens To You It Is How You Respond To It

January 10, 2023

Many people blame their circumstances for their shortcomings and as a result accept the harsh reality of their situation. These people believe an event is equivalent to its outcome; however, for the truly remarkable person, adversity is where they thrive.

What allows these people to succeed? They realize it is not what has happened to them in their lives, but the manner in which they react to these events. The way a person decides to respond to certain occurrences is what will shape his or her feelings, actions and results. It all lies within ourselves to be successful in life or not.

Confessions of a Man With Tourettes

January 9, 2023

whats it like to have tourettes syndrome

How did you get diagnosed and when did the tics start?

Diagnosed August last year. I’m 23 tics started when I was 19 probably, I lived with my parents when things were getting out of hand, and yes I got in trouble. My mother didn’t seem to believe it could possibly be TS, despite doing research, until I got diagnosed. She screamed at me plenty, and even cried cause she hates the word cunt so much. Honestly, I think she was doing her best, but its just tough to adjust too, for a parent of an adult.
