Car Thieves Completely Plunder Mercedes While Owner Is Sleeping

December 17, 2020

86495272

Paul Hampton was woken at 5am by a neighbor telling him to take a look at his car. He assumed he would find his C-Class AMG had been damaged, but instead saw it just a shell standing on bricks.

Thieves stole almost everything but the car itself. They got away with the doors, the hood, his seats, the tires, and even his trunk. The front bumper and headlights were partly removed, suggesting the crooks may have been disturbed and fled. According to the insurance company, the damage is 19k in total.

“I stepped outside the front door, I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. They hadn’t damaged any panels and didn’t leave fingerprints. These seem to be professionals working in a team of five or six."

The Koss Porta Pros with the YAXI Earpads upgrade is a hard to beat combo for under $40

The sound of the Porta Pro is otherworldly, considering its tiny size and affordable price. Bass is powerful and punchy, but it doesn’t bleed into the mids. The mids are nice, smooth, and na\tural, with no hint of harshness or artificial grain. The highs are rolled off, but still detailed enough to hear, providing a rather relaxed, easy-listening type of sound that you could listen to for hours without fatigue.

What’s It Like To Regret Having Your Child?

December 16, 2020

I regret having my 9 year old with autism and oppositional defiance disorder every single day. She is very verbal and can be as sweet as a peach when she gets her way, but doing the hard work of parenting her correctly has been a nightmare.

She was an unwanted pregnancy when I was a dumb 20 year old. I was in a lot of psych meds before I realized I was pregnant that I think messed her brain up. I had taken plan B perfectly like on the instructions the one time I had unprotected sex, I figured that would have been the end of that worry. I didn’t realize I was pregnant until she was about 10 weeks gestation and immediately stopped taking my meds but alas. By the time I could get the money together for an abortion (the closest planned parenthood was a 7 hour drive so no-go there) the pregnancy was too far along. I wish I would have looked into adoption now.

marshall applewhite

Marshall Applewhite was the leader of the UFO religious millenarian cult Heaven’s Gate, whose members committed mass suicide in March of 1997 after drinking applesauce laced with phenobarbital, believing the oncoming Hale-Bopp comet was being trailed by a spaceship that would absorb their souls

On March 26, 1997, 39 members of the Heaven’s Gate cult were found dead in a mass suicide. Led by a self-described prophet named Marshall Applewhite, followers believed that a heavenly UFO was trailing the Hale–Bopp Comet — and this was their only chance to escape Earth before it was “recycled” and wiped clean. Once they hopped aboard, they would be on their way to a much better planet. And since their human bodies were merely “vehicles,” they could safely leave them at any time and ascend to the “next level.”

Vanmoof TV Box

A bicycle company struggling with damaged shipments used our tendency to scan content and make assumptions by putting a TV image on its box. Damage rates fell 80%

Since early 2016, VanMoof, a Dutch bicycle company, has been shipping its bikes in cardboard boxes with pictures of TVs on their face. VanMoof creative director Bex Rad explains how the bit of trickery was meant to reduce damage.

Bikes are generally thought of as more durable, so shipping companies might not be as careful as they would with a television.

“After a while, fragile labels — which we have tried, believe me — become like wallpaper,”

“We think our solution works better because shipping companies know that if they damage a TV, it ends up being a whole lot more work, so they treat it more delicately.”

The technique has noticeably reduce damages rates: Rad claims that the design change led to 70-80% fewer damaged bike products on arrival.

Mediocrity is a Virus

Little things become big things.

When you justify and allow even little things into your life which your intuition warns you against, you permit a virus to enter your life. It spreads to other areas.

When you introduce a change to any system, you simultaneously change the whole system. The other areas of the system will begin arranging themselves to better fit with the new.

Going against your higher intuitive voice is a slippery-slope. You don’t realize day to day how out of whack things are really getting.

Any small problem or indulgence cannot be viewed in isolation. It reflects something much bigger and much deeper. Sometimes it takes an intense wake-up call to become aware of the signals.
