16 Homeowners Reveal Things They Wish They Knew Before Buying Their First House

March 19, 2024

1. Get the sewage pipe scoped. I wish I would have down that with my first house. If I would have known that, I would have never bought the house. Tree roots were growing into the sewer pipe. Every 6 months or so we would have the sewer pipe back up and had to call a plumber out on an emergency call. It was advised to us that we should probably replace the sewage pipe with a PVC pipe. This would involve tearing up the concrete in the basement and digging out the front yard to get access to the pipe. It was going to cost a lot of money. We eventually moved (for those wondering, we did disclose that information to the buyer and they were ok with that for whatever reason).

This Has Squatter Written All over It!

March 19, 2024

From the ad, if the individual were to seek to become a squatter after being invited into the home under the pretense of house sitting, they could potentially take advantage of the situation by:

  1. Establishing residency: They might begin to receive mail at the address, use it as their address for identification purposes, and generally establish a presence that might appear legitimate to outsiders.
  2. Refusing to leave: After the agreed house sitting period is over, they could simply refuse to vacate the property.
  3. Exploiting legal protections: Depending on local laws, once someone has established residency, even illegally, there may be a formal eviction process that the owner must go through to remove the individual, which can be time-consuming and costly.

17 Welders Reveal How Much They Make

March 19, 2024

welder

1. My background is welding but I branched out and learned more trade skills. I make $45 an hour with pretty much unlimited overtime. I know I’m far above average in pay. I was making $50k for a couple years. That’s pretty normal for average welders doing shop and fab work.

Unless you are willing to endanger your life or be moving around constantly with no job security you probably won’t be making 100k a year.

8 Residents of San Francisco Reveal What It’s Really Like To Live There

March 18, 2024

1. I’ve been living in SF since 2006 and homelessness has always been bad and very perceptible. So in a sense, what you’re experiencing has been the case even before 2021 for a long time. What’s bad though is that before the pandemic, SF was a city of trade offs: although it had a lot of problems with petty crime and homelessness, the bars were full, conventions were held weekly, the downtown happy hours were bustling, lots of energy in downtown, lots of young people doing activities, and more businesses were opening than closing. Now, all of the positive things are going away now.

So yeah, all the negative stuff about SF is known for like petty crimes and homelessness isn’t getting any worse, but the positive stuff has gotten a lot worse which makes the negative stuff harder to digest.

14 High Net Worth Individuals Reveal Their Financial Home Runs

March 18, 2024

1. This is probably a strange answer, but joining the military.

I was able to mature and save up a small nest egg, get access to the Post 9/11 GI bill, and some combat wounds were 100% worth it for the disability check and healthcare lol

That let me go to to college and a great law school with no debt, and led me to where I am today.

Plus, I wouldn’t trade the experiences for anything. Home run.
