Why Are Graphing Calculators Still So Expensive?

August 8, 2023

In an era where technology advances at a rapid pace, Texas Instruments’ graphing calculators like the TI-83 and TI-84 seem to be stuck in the past. Launched in 1996 and 2004 respectively, these calculators have remained largely unchanged, featuring a 6 MHz processor, non-rechargeable batteries, and a screen reminiscent of an old Game Boy. Surprisingly, their price has also remained stable, costing around $100, unlike other outdated gadgets that typically decrease in price.

4 people from the same town who fought in different wars.

The eyes of four men, captured in a single photograph, tell a story of approximately 80 years of warfare. The horrors they witnessed and the experiences they shared are reflected in their eyes, growing more profound as they aged. Each of these men went to war, yet their experiences spanned completely different types of warfare.

Questionable Financial Decision of the Day

August 7, 2023

$175k annual salary pretax w/last years bonuses. Currently renting with my boyfriend and pay only about $1k in rent on my end, and utilities are covered free. My other expenses generally go towards lifestyle (social outings, clothing, luxury things) though I can easily cut down on those.

Been driving my parents 2011 RAV4, which has been an absolutely amazing experience. It’s been maintained properly and has zero issues, but lacks any sort of sporty flair. I’ve almost given up on life except for my career and education the past 5 years and I thought it was due for a refreshment. I’ve never made my own car purchase, nor do I know the inner workings of them – simply looking for a fun ride. I don’t do much driving as I live downtown and my work/school is very accessible through transit or Uber.

Yesterday I drove home one of my dream cars: a second hand 2017 Porsche 911 turbo with some aftermarket modifications. I financed it through a dealership for $105k 68 months at 6.6% with 25k down.

Confession of the Day

August 7, 2023

My dying wife asked me if I’d be okay if she had sex with her ex one last time

My wife has a terminal disease. She is projected to live at most 9 months. I am of course destroyed. We’ve been together for a decade. I don’t remember life without her and I don’t know what I’m going to do when she’s gone. I have been doing my best to make the last days of her life good and grant whatever wish I can.

The doctors said that she was likely to need a wheelchair in 4 or 5 months, then by month 8 she’ll be bedridden for the last few weeks. That’s if she doesn’t decline faster.
