Before and after limb lengthening surgery

Lengthening works by separating the bone and distracting (pulling apart) the bone segments very slowly so that new bone continues to form in the gap. As the bone segments are slowly distracted, the bone regenerates, resulting in increased length. The device that performs the lengthening is called a fixator.

How tall were you before having any surgeries? How tall are you now?  I was 3’10” before my first surgery. Today I’m 4’11”

How many lengthening surgeries did you have? Three. I lengthened my legs first in 2010. Followed by my arms in 2011. I lengthened my legs a second time in 2013 with internal nails.
