Over the years, “the Professor” has gained a huge following on the internet due to his impressive ball handling and flashy moves. This has led many people to believe in the ridiculous assumption that he could make the NBA if he wanted to. In fact, I have seen videos where Grayson himself says that he could have made the NBA, but preferred street ball.
This is an absolute lie and anyone who believes that this man could make the NBA has absolutely no knowledge of the game. Grayson Boucher is 5′7; there have been only 9 players in NBA history 5′7 and under.
Lets go through his strengths and weaknesses. First off, pretty much his only strength is his flashy ball handling. This would not even be allowed in the NBA. Most of them are illegal in the NBA and are considered travelling. Additonally, even if he managed to pull these dribbles off without the referee blowing the whistle, there is no way that any decent NBA defender would not immediately steal the ball from him. Do you think that Marcus Smart or Jrue Holiday would fall for those flashy dribbles?
Now, moving on to his weaknesses. On offense, he is an average shooter even just for streetball. Even when he crosses over opponents, he often misses easy open shots. In the NBA, you get maybe 0.5 seconds to shoot the ball without a defender getting all over you; even the worst shooters and centres are probably better shooters than Grayson Boucher.
He is unathletic compared to the people he plays, imagine how he would compete against people in the NBA who are quite literally freaks of nature. He is a liability on defense in streetball, imagine what would happen to him if he was guarding Steph Curry in the NBA.
All of this is not to spread any hate to “the Professor”, but there is absolutely no way that he could make the NBA even if he devoted his whole life to it. He went undrafted in the 2007 NBA Draft; he claims it’s only because people were prejudiced against him but this is obviously not the case. No team in their right minds would take a 5′7 unathletic guard who is a mediocre shooter and a clear liability on defense.
